Facebook is nice for having little class groups where you can help each other.

I have a group for my 3/4, and our teacher is in it - answers our questions.

Of course, you could probably accomplish the same thing with Skype.

Anything you do can be a waste during VCE, it just depends on how you use it.

at my school everything is integrated into our laptops so i just send facebook messages then alt+tab back to my work etc.
before laptops were used so much, i tried deactivating once, i ended up spending 2 hours a day writhing at my desk wanting to do homework but just not being able to
facebook was a more pleasant use of time LOL

Unless I'm doing something really important, Facebook is always on one of my tabs.

I don't regret not deactivating it during VCE and even in university. It's a very convenient way of getting in contact with your cohort and classmates quickly, and sometimes I just use it to discuss questions and assignments which I don't really understand.

This is my biggest problem since de-activating.. I've lost contact with hundreds of people.

Exactly! Okay, so early this year I tried deactivating.. I ending up writing an entire 3/4 Methods Revision booklet LOL.
I got facebook back now since its too expensive for me to text and didn't have lot of ppl's numbers. I leave chat turned off tho, and that helps... sort of
Haha, thenn I signed up to this site (perhaps you've heard of it).. called AtarNotes :P barely 1 month later.. I've spent more time on it than members who've had it for years

I de-activated facebook at the start of Year 11 and I can safely say that it's been one of the best decisions I've made in my life haha!
That being said - you do feel a bit out of it at times especially when it comes to 18th's/other social events..but meh you get used to it  :P

The thing I find with people deactivating fb from here is that they then spend that time stalking AN which isn't much more productive I guess :P

Just be logical about I guess.

I'm just going to hope that you weren't directing that comment at me or implying that I'm a stalker, and continue going about my own ways... :P
That being said, you're 100% correct, it's all about common sense and knowing where to draw the line.

I'm only in Year 11, but I personally deactivated it about a month ago due to all the unfiltered child porn and videos of people killing themselves which made me realise how shit Facebook really is; it's a monopoly unfortunately.

But, I do waste about 3-4 hours a day watching YouTube videos and watching TV/movies.
There are days on which I watch this or even more hours of khanacademy videos...
On average I waste usefully use my time on youtube with 3.7 khanacademy videos per day. (Number is the average from the last 7 days)

Always. Especially for assignments haha it's great if you create a subject group and you can share ideas, notes etc

Otherwise, I think it's a pretty damn good way to contact people especially people in our age group. I don't think I know anyone who is less than 25 that doesn't have facebook. Also the 'seen' feature is ****ing awesome :P Now I can tell when people are ignoring me! haha

Like a few others here facebook is always open on tab on my computer. You have to learn to control your use, generally if the traffic on fb is quiet then I can work without getting distracted by fb. But if I have multiple convos happening and then there's a debate that's when shit gets real and I can't really focus lol

Deactivated mine at the end of year 10.
Came back halfway through last year.
Deactivated a week later because of all the shitty changes FB had made/unfamiliarity with new interface (what the hell happened to wall posts? Now it's just a timeline?).
Haven't gone on Facebook since.

You do realize that in order for us to get ATARs of 80-90+, there has to be people at the other end of the spectrum right?
