Hey there,
On friday I did the first half of my year 11 language analysis sac. It involved analysing two articles with opposing views.
This is my first time analysing two articles. So what are the key things and structures (like in a body paragraph, into, conclu.) when comparing two articles in language analysis?
-The way I've done it, is comparing their views on the topic in each body paragraph (so their quite long), I address one supporting argument and manage to link it with the other opposing writer's argument with 'however' and 'on the other hand'. I plan to briefly compare their structure in their articles in the conclusion. Is this the right thing to do?
Thanks!
Well, dear friend, the way I have been thought is to first all in the introduction, introduce the issue, the parties affected, target audience, and contention by the two writers. Then in the first paragraph, you analyse the first piece and depending on how long it is, you might have several paragraphs of analysis for it. Then, for article two, you outline the author's main contention and the main similarities and differences to the first article. And, you go on analysing it as per normal.
An example of this could be:
Gillies provokes the reader by using [technique] to convince them that they should not buy cotton made in South Ireland. Here, she intends that [describe intent].. Then, in the second article paragraph:
In opposition to Gillies' viewpoint that cotton made in South Ireland should not be purchased, Back contends that consumers are misinformed about the issue citing that cotton in South Ireland are well made and are of good quality.
