Homework in the holidays

It's been a while since our family has gone on a holiday back to Italy - the last time we went was when I was in Year 9 and my sister was in Year 5. I know that doesn't seem like a very long time, but given that we have family over there, it's quite a long time not seeing them. Anyway, my parents were thinking of taking us again next year in the midyear break - my sister will be in Year 9 then and that's probably the last time we can get away with such a long holiday before she commences VCE. My question is, do universities tend to set homework during the midyear break? I know the break is usually a month long, so I'm not likely to miss out on any classes. To be honest, I'm super keen to go anyway - I really am longing for a holiday after the demanding VCE is over and done with. I'm just curious as to whether I'd have to take homework with me, which wouldn't be a catastrophe, but may detract from the break somewhat. I know this will vary a lot depending on the university and the course, but any guidance would be really helpful. :)

No, go on your holiday. For what it's worth, I missed classes in VCE because of travel, it doesn't matter that much

You pass the unit and that's it. It's your own responsibility though. If you want to reduce the workload, I'd do preparation anyway

As far as I'm aware, the majority of university subjects are one semester long, so most likely you wouldn't have any assigned study to do.

As far as I know, universities don't give out serious assigned work to do before the commencement of first-year courses, if at all.

Damnnn I really want to learn a third language..either Spanish or Italian..because the sound of 'r' is very similar to my first language. And football is increasing my interest towards these languages as well..I still remember the times when juventus was dominating serie a with del piero, trezeguet, Patel nedved and ibrahimovic

Italian and Spanish are supposedly the easiest languages to learn for English speakers. Having studied Italian up until the end of Year 11 (and I would have done it this year had a class run) I can vouch that it's not too difficult if languages is your sort of thing.

And believe me, reciting Italian poetry goes down a treat... :P

French is also pretty easy to learn for English speakers; same alphabet, easy-to-understand accents, logical grammar and syntax, many similarities with English words...

and it goes down well avec les femmes :P

Well my first language (Turkish) limits me learning some of European languages (accent, grammar etc) it's easier for me to learn eastern languages (korean, Japanese) but then writing is a problem. As I said above, my interest in Italian and Spanish is because of soccer :) and Italian girls :)

Most units (read: subjects) only last one semester, so you don't have any study obligations over mid-year break.

I guess it depends on what you're studying! For Arts each subject has a subject reader (or in the case of English, a setlist of novels/plays/poems/whatevs) which you could read over the break. It's not appropriate for all subjects because in some cases it will of course be reading that only makes sense as you progress through the course, but in others the reading is just interesting and you don't need any previous knowledge to understand it.
