Personally, I've given up the idea that Peace can be achieved; but if anyone is willing to put in their view points, I would love to hear it and explain their reasons :)!

Humanity is shit. Everyone has disagreements etc. out of greed, jealousy etc. cant avoid that in life.

Peace is attainable and WILL be attained. Someday. But perhaps we will never see that day.

I think that depends on the definition of peace/war. I think we're heading towards a world with neither.

I can't really fathom a world in which there are no international tensions. Even if we reach some state of equilibrium which everyone is satisfied with, eventually internal conflicts in a country will upset it. So no, I don't think we'll have a world in which everyone lives in harmony et cetera.

It seems likely though that we are heading away from direct battlefield confrontation. It seems rather pointless, considering that most world powers have the capability to destroy each other at will.

I think it can happen if we really wanted it to but since humanity is flawed, there will always be barriers to achieving it. Although on one level, I think that some phenomenon will happen and we will lose all our knowledge and only through that will we achieve peace. Maybe that's when life will end, when we finally figure out how to live in harmony with each other.

When you look at the reasons why wars happen, I think it's fair to say that they are inevitable unless there are a number of unforeseeable changes in terms of human nature and the context of life on Earth.

Plenty of things, actually. Of course I'd rather if we were able to completely avoid it, but it's not like going to war is an automatically bad decision. At the very least, I think we could all agree on that if a country has been attacked, or otherwise fears for its safety, it's allowed to engage the threatening powers.
