yep yep, I definitely understand where you are coming from firefly, I definitely do admire those kinds of people, but its when they start parading their superior ability to juggle a million tasks and still do as well or better than you that really gets on my nerves :P

@simpak that is so true?? haha. I have this friend who is sooo super competitive it is actually so hard to learn sitting next to him because he is always looking at my notes, asking what i got etc etc. :P

That doesn't beat my Further Maths class -

If I ask my teacher to give us assignments/practice tests in preparation for a Further SAC, they start complaining (even though most have only Further as their 3/4 in my yr 11 class). Then when I ask in secret, they start complaining that the teacher only gives me work, further fueling their desire to prove that my marks are based solely on the fact that my teacher 'loves' me.

Thushan is it really competitive at a grammar school? Like are the other students really competitive and secretive.. you know, some characteristics we're bringing up here?

I've always been curious to know :P

We have a Further Maths cohort of 50 divided into 3 classes:
- 1 year 11 class made up of 15 students (i.e. the yr 11 class)
- 2 year 12 classes - 1 for students who do Bio/Physics because one of the classes clashes, and the other for students who don't do Bio or Physics.

Does anyone else get really annoyed when people make comments to you like " Oh wow, you work so hard! I wish I work as hard as you..". Especially when they are beating you in like every SAC.
I dunno if I am overthinking this, but honestly, I actually get really frustrated :P Its almost as if they are saying "hey look, I don't have to work at all and I am still beating you! aka. I am much smarter than you!"  and then they give you that smile as if that was supposed to be a compliment...........
Do you guys have any ideas on how to combat this problem? Because, it really makes me feel terrible that I am working so hard, while still yeilding worse marks then people who seemingly don't.
I just feel the urge to tell them to shush but then it would ruin the friendship :P but then again, I hate having to deal with this stereotype of being the "tryhard" "no lyfer" who still does average at VCE...

hello friend,

yes i agree my friends always higher mark than me and always never go to class, he just study few days before exam always beat me :(. he always tell me 'oh i did so bad i think only 95%' but joke on him i beat him once get 98%, make me very happy inside. But one good thing, I think to have competitor make you work harder achieve your goals and success.

Cheers for the input Fortweney! I am sure everyone can benefit from that comment :)
@ Thu Thu Train :'(  If you read most people's comments, you might realise that they admire the attitude more than the mark! :P

at the end of the day, someone is better than what you're best at

this is probably why drawing makes me weirdly miserable when I look at pro works of art :( (but hey I still do it anyway)

on a random sidenote, I absolutely hate the competition with asian parents and how smart their kids are - I used to go to Saturday tution for maths and english with a friend and most of the time my friend performed better than I did and I would say "oh good job!" and congratulate her - then her mum would ask how I went and I could sense that she was satisfied that I didn't do as good - but whenever I outperformed my friend she and her mum would say absolutely nothing.

raaaarrrghhhh. I just think it's really annoying whycantpeoplejustbegoodsports. /endrant

Anyway, whenever I had people who did better than me and were subtly pleased that they did better than me I would just say "wow good job, well done" to them and carry on. I just hate it when they dont do the same or keep quiet (usually they find out my mark by peering over my shoulder or something) but at least I know I'm doing the right thing

If you're asking the teacher to give the class more work, you're not going to be particularly popular..?
