Mathematical Methods SS - SACs, and exam performance

Hey Guys,

Just wondering, I've averaged a high B+ for the first two sacs at MHS (mainly because I kind of stuff up the second SAC a little bit). Assuming I get an A+ on the third SAC (And they're all equal in terms of weighting), and manage mid to low A+s on the End of year exams, would it still be possible for me to get an overall study score of between 40 and 45?

Cheers guys,

Pi you went to MHS, what did you get like, on average, in terms of grade score?

Um, I got A+ for every Methods SAC (each part etc.).

I think I got like B+s, As and A+s for all my SAC grades at MHS, they all scaled up to an A+ so yeah it's completely possible.

Well I'm not sure how relevant this is, but the first time my Methods score came out last year, my SAC score was mistakenly given as an A (after scaling) and I still got a 46. After I told my school about that error, my study score was soon changed to a 50, which implies that my exam score must have been close to 100%.

This means that with an A for SACs after scaling, you cannot possibly make more than a study score of 46, which means that you have to try and get your scaled SAC score up to an A+ if you want 45+.

Sorry guys, but can anyone tell me what sac mark is equivalent to an A+? Also, how is the average sac mark scaled up? At my school, we just get a percentage for each sac and my teacher told me that she just put our marks online for vcaa???

Another question: in order to get 50 in methods, do you HAVE TO be the top one in your cohort in terms of sac marks? I have heard from my teacher that it is mire important to perform well in my exam since my sac marks will be scaled up if I do well...

Thank you!

Thanks pi and nliu1995! But is vcaa going to take into account ranking of schools? I mean, is it going to be easier for someone who was ranked 3 at mhs to get a 50 than the other who was also ranked 3 at an average school?

Yes due to SAC scaling, generally the lower ranked school you are in the closer to #1 you should be to have a chance of getting a 50.

Hmm. That's interesting. Considering SACs generally count for half, or even less than half, of your SS, it is quite interesting to see that a mere difference between A and A+ changed so much in your ss. Was the A you obtained for all your SACs for the whole year or only for one unit (ie. Unit 3 or 4?).

That A was for the entire year; for Methods, SACs in the whole year are counted as GA 1.
