okay there has been many questions about which one people should do but my question is:
what do you need to average in the sacs / exam to get a study score of
eg. 20- 25, 25 - 30, 30-35 etc. (for both specialist and further)
not sure if i made it clear enough.
thanks!
Your RAW SAC mark does not count for anything other than ranking every individual in your cohort from highest to lowest. Your SAC marks are moderated according to how your cohort performs. Lets say we have 3 people in a Further Maths class:
Bob
Amy
James
Bob has a SAC mark average of 98% = rank 1
Amy has a SAC mark average of 92% = rank 2
James has a SAC mark average of 79% = rank 3
Above, you can see that the average SAC mark is only used to rank the individuals in your cohort. Now, here is the average exam score for Bob, Amy and James:
Bob = 72% (he has a panic attack)
Amy = 100%
James = 50%
Now from what we can see regarding exam marks, the highest mark obtained was 100%, then 72% and then 50%. The SAC marks are moderated so that while everyone's exam scores stay the same, the person's SAC marks become the exam mark corresponding to that ranking.
So Bob is ranked 1st; his exam mark on his study score will be 72%, however, his SAC marks will become 100% because he is ranked first, and so his SAC average becomes the highest obtained exam mark. Amy is ranked 2nd; her exam mark will be 100%, however, the SAC mark moderation will result in her SAC mark being 72%, which is the 2nd highest exam mark. James is ranked third; his exam mark will remain 50%, and that 79% will be moderated to a 50% because it is the lowest exam result and he is ranked last.
So, its more about getting a good ranking than worrying about how much your raw SAC score is. I don't do Specialist; but I do Further Maths.
Lets take a mark of 40 in Further and 30 in Specialist. Further Maths is scaled down by about 2, so becomes 38, and Spesh typically scales up by approximately 12, so will become 42. Do you see how you can actually get a higher mark in Specialist than Further after scaling in spite of you getting 10 marks less in Specialist than Further. However, in saying that, Further Maths is quite an easy subject. But, the thing is, because so many students do really well at it, due to its low level of difficulty, the cut-off marks for an A+ are really high, and making a few silly mistakes could cost you valuable marks.
If you're a strong Math student, you could do all three
