Poll

How did the UMAT 2013 go in general? (modesty aside)

Pretty good, I'm pleased with my performance
Alright I guess
Not really sure, could have gone either way
Not too well, not happy with how I went
To be frank, a complete disaster
I didn't sit the UMAT 2013 today but like to respond to polls anyway

Did anyone get the question in section 1 about the earth orbiting the sun for section 1? it was so hard for me for some reason even though i think it's not meant to be hard
Definitely didn't have that one either - maybe it was one of the trial questions.

RIP medical dreams

Don't give up your hope just yet!  You can still apply for JCU med.  They don't look at your UMAT result.  8)  Beside, you may actually do well in the exam.  Getting a few questions wrong (or guessing a few) is normal.  Remember that you do not need to get 100%tile to get into med!

UMAT is only your hurdle for one of your pathways into med. There's always other ways, such as applying to JCU or getting in a graduate course.

And yes, it's quite hard to gauge how you go in the UMAT. Cross your fingers and hope for the best when September comes!

I would choose JCU not because of the number of years but because for UQ, you need to get an average GPA  of 5.5 for the first 3 years.  To be honest, GPA 5.5 is very manageable, but I tend to be on the safe side  :P  Beside, the first year at JCU is already medicine, whereas for UQ, you will be doing science or art.

I heard that they don't.  They will instead do some internal calculations to give you a percentile.  I am not sure how that works lol.

I really wanted to do UQ because one, my sister is over there, so she can cook my food  :P. Also because it is of higher rank than JCU and also in a kindaa CBD area in Brisbane whereas JCU is in tropical rural area.

Rank doesn't matter for undergraduate courses...it's usually based on research output and other factors.

I heard that the cohort for UQ MBBS is pretty boring and anti-social, according to pagingdr. That's just an opinion I read though.

As for whether I'd choose UQ or JCU, it depends on how much I'd want to do Medicine. If I was 100% sure I wanted to do Medicine then I would pick JCU. But if I wanted to explore and try out some new subjects (such as Physics or Chemistry) then I would go to UQ.

I have mates at both, I'd say the social life is better for JCU.

I also had JCU in front of UQ when I got into both of them.

So why sit the GAMSAT?

not all universities such as UTAS necessarily use GAMSAT and thus use UMAT.
