You'll miss school more than you think when you're in university (at least in my view).

I personally think it's harder to maintain friendships at uni because you tend to have different timetables and breaks with others (unless you're doing a course that has a small/set cohort).

Such lies, such lies :P

Your confidence is retroactively inspiring to my inner VCE student, but terrifying to me as a uni student :-\

I honestly think people that would rather high-school over uni are either looking back with the perpetually tempting rose-coloured glasses that we all love to wear or had it too easy in high-school :p

Hey guys,

I know right now the general consensus among year 12 students seems to be a dire urgency to conclude the year, examinations and move onto uni-life. I can't sit here and say that the year hasn't been full of stress, late nights and strenuous amounts of effort allocated to studying, however, I will say that this is a time to enjoy. At least, now we see our friends five days a week and can enjoy some quality time, the parties and the ability to learn concepts that are so fascinating throughout our courses. I know it seems tough now - trust me I know them feels, I am year 12 student as well - although, let us all push through this final hurdle together, conquer examinations and enjoy the four months off we have. I don't know about everyone else but four months off is enough incentive for me to continue to keep working. I would also say that remember that most of us here of AN aren't working for a number, but we are indeed, working towards gaining admission to the course of our dreams. So stay classy, work hard, listen to plenty of French music and keep going because the cows are coming home!

And then you have the kids who don't have well-defined friendship groups and so don't look forward to hang out with their friends every day, who don't often attend social events and perceive year twelve as one long, unending assignment. Some members of this subset of society find year twelve academic work to be fascinating and rewarding, while others find VCE to be a bore. For the unfortunate students who fall into the last category, I think that they would be more than elated to finish the year and start anew at university. I have seen students like this and they're not happy.

I know so many people that feel like that this year! BUT OMG ... 3 MONTHS TILL ITS ALL OVER!! ( hopefully that gives you some motivation)

But I guess year 12 is  fun  , like today our friendship group went to nandos , and we mixed all the sauces and vinegar , and dared one of the mhs guys to drink it. LOL. I think the little things like that make it what it is ! :) And so far, for me , it's been one of the best years of my fours years here. As well, as the studying part of it, it's very important , just to take some time out and keep things in perspective.
AND WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS ...CLASS OF 2013!

I can understand your point and it does make sense. I have also seen people who are much more interested in beginning tertiary level work and leave the stresses of VCE in the past. I would say so that holistically, it is an experience and one that has its benefits and disadvantages. Some people may not have well-defined friend groups and it become difficult, indeed. Although I know people are not happy, however, the point I raise is that, this year is not useless, it is per-say a stepping stone to enter the course which we want to study university.

Not useless? Where do I start...

None of the English subjects will help me at uni. So explain why my score in any of the Englishes must count in my top 4.
Also, VCE sciences are...really badly designed. Chemistry doesn't teach some things properly (like equilibrium constants), while physics tries to teach physics without maths, which is like trying to teach a kid without hands to write. None of them are really good stepping stones to get into uni. In physics, you go from no maths at all to all these whacky integrals that are bamboozling to the uninitiated.

In short, VCE could be made a whole lot better to prepare people for uni.

Hmm I agree that the VCE science subjects are not structured very well, however, not everyone wants to run prior to walking. I mean equilibria with units, sure its a complete contradiction to Gibss free energy law, but I think we have to understand that this was the case for us as well transitioning from junior science into senior science (at least for me).
Physics does attempt to simplify a lot of its mathematics but methods is not a pre-requisite to study it, therefore, I think VCAA attempts to accommodate for a variety of students.

Hmm why English? English is what we speak, without communication skills and the inability to articulate ideas how are we expected to go on and structure pieces of work witch explain our scientific observations, succinctly?
I would argue that English should remain a compulsory subject, period. We require communication skills and the ability to analyse information on a daily basis. Furthermore, the separation of VCE English into three core areas of study complements such skills and allows a person to not only gain analytical abilities but also develop skills to express their ideas in an engaging manner.

lol... am i the only one (in year 12) here that thinks year 12 is fun? :D

i spent most of today making these:

:)
2012:  Methods [48] Physics [49]
2013:  English [40] (oops) Chemistry [46] Spesh [42] Indo SL [34] Uni Maths: Melb UMEP [4.5] Monash MUEP [just for a bit of fun]
2014:  BAeroEng/BComm

I have such a love-hate relationship with this year. One day I want to throw textbooks systematically at everyone in my common room, the next I am going out to lunch with friends practically skipping... I must admit though, I am pretty keen for the afternoon of the 12th of November :P
Always here to help!

Exactly. Good luck taking a natural log of M^5.
Also, good luck using the Gibbs equation when your gas amounts are in molar.

This accommodation for science students without maths is stupid. You just don't teach physics without maths. You can't. Students won't really get what's happening. I mean...counting squares? Sure, if the function is weird, but not if it's an inverse square law. Come on.
English is important, yes, but forcing it to be in the primary four is a major nuisance. Most of the English courses are not even about the ability to analyse and communicate clearly. You have to remember all these damned quotes and examples, which isn't testing us on our communication.

I'll wholeheartedly agree with you there!
on the 12th of November the VCE demon will be conquered and I think I will combust into a frenzied state of interpretive dance! Plus then my 18th day of birth follows two days later!
The end of school is sounding more appealing by the second!
