Are these types of examples allowed in Context?

My English teacher advised our class to use novels rather than anything else when it comes to examples.

That is an issue for me. I do read (I love it) but not books related to Identity or Belonging or not really real-life situations since most of what I read is fantasy (Dracula novel, James Patterson, Lian Hearns, etc).

However, I do have examples I COULD use but not sure if I am allowed. Many of the examples are either in anime (Japanese animation), manga (Japanese comics), songs (English of course) or videogame form.

I've used them before but my teacher said she wants something unique. To me, I think that is unique enough since many of the other students just use novels and films. She told me once that I was the only student that used anime, manga and videogames and her tone gave evidence that she did not want to see those types of examples again.

So, are they allowed in the exam?

Yes, absolutely - but you really want to show breadth. Don't pick a whole range of them and nothing else. Select maybe one good anime or manga; one poem; one novel; one example from history. Something like that. Try, also, not to pick things too "simple" that don't get you any brownie points for being intellectual or well-read.
