AN Meet 2013/14
« on: October 11, 2013, 02:21:04 pm »

Just getting this question out there as Abes made a suggestion which was well received (by up-votes) and it's an annual gathering for ATAR Notes and good chance to put a face to some names etc. I've personally made some great friends from these meets (especially from years not class of 2011!), so would recommend it if you can make it. Furthermore, if you do feel a bit shy or scared of some of us (I think I scare a fair few haha), we're all a lot nicer in real life (I still don't like VCE Physics) when we don't have a moderator role attached to us :D

DETAILS (big thanks to gossamer!)
Event is on Facebook and is likely to be updated more than this thread, so join this group https://www.facebook.com/groups/306672579444855/ to see the event.

Date and time: 9th of Dec 2013 at 1pm

Place: Flagstaff Gardens*, place of the meet last year which was a success :)

Food: Please bring food and/or drinks to share, or bring a couple dollars to chip in for stuff. If you have specific allergies, please let a gossamer or myself know in advance so we can try to cater for you too.
Note: This is an ALCOHOL-FREE event - sorry, but not everyone will be overage!

Activities: Feel free to bring anything you want :) I will be providing a ball for some 4 square!

FEEL FREE TO BRING A FRIEND IF YOU WANT! :D

*The Gardens are literally next to the Flagstaff Train Station exits. I will post other ways to get there (e.g. by tram) as well as contact numbers in case you can't find us (the gardens are pretty big) closer to the date. :)

Note: if you can't make it, don't worry there will be another one in January! Enjoy your holidays otherwise!

old part of post
This thread is just to see what people think and what you guys want! For your sake, I probably won't be organising it all, my organisational skills are less than desirable haha. I'd say 30+ "Yes" votes is enough to warrant a meet (as inevitably some can't make it on the day etc etc) There was more than enough interest! :)

Suggestions to put in replies to this thread:
> Volunteers to organise it!: gossamer, Abes, pi, brenden
> Timing - lunch before ATARs are released, possible second event later
> Location in city - somewhere with a BBQ
> What:
     - Food? BBQ, cake, others?
     - Activities? previously: downball was a success, "hat game", soccer, enwiabe vs Thush running race was a classic. Ideas?
> Other:
     - Any random requests?
     - Want any particular users to be there? eeps of course
     - Why you wouldn't come? travel, you hate us, etc.

I'll have to say that this will be an alcohol-free event just because there will inevitably be underage people there. Sorry SnowRed.

Look at goss' post below, a FB event will be created.

Post away! :)

Edit: moved topic to a board with post voting so good suggestions can get +1s and be noticed easier :)

See you all there!

If you need to, I can help you to organise it again. I think something along the lines of what we've done in the past would be nice. I've also done a beach meet-up with another group which worked out quite well so that's an option if enough people would prefer that?

A facebook event is actually a bit of a hassle, because I ended up befriending (on facebook) a large number of users who I had never met (since the event was invite only and we wanted to prevent randoms crashing). That being said, it would be easier if there was one - so I would probably suggest making it an event for the AN Community College group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/306672579444855/ - so people can just join the group if they want to come and then join the event?

Thanks, that would be great haha! The events you've organised have been amazing, I'll help out for sure (and any others if they want to!) :)

And yep that's a fantastic idea with the group event (I'll admin you)!

If you missed Monash Open Day, here is your chance to meet pi!

Note: Prices have remained the same. And yes, that is an accurate drawing of him.

Would encourage people to come. It's always a great time, and because it's an AN meet, it's almost guaranteed that you won't be the most awkward person there!

(Can confirm, accurate picture above)

I agree with this. We've had BBQs and fun games in the past at Batman Park and Flagstaff Gardens in the city. It would be really great to see some of you guys there!
