LOL yeah me. It took me 117 minutes, but I finished it with a 78/80

Would have been 80 if not for two very careless multiple choices -.-

In my defense, I forgot to keep my eye on the time; I checked the time at the start, after the MC section and at the end. I had no idea it took me 117 minutes until the end.

Emphasis on sane. Haha. Nah just kidding. Well done :P we expect great things from you. I can't really give myself a realistic score, I have a really bad habit of not taking practice exams seriously. But I just took off those 3 show that marks. I'm also a really slow worker - steady, but slow. Hopefully spec isn't too long this year!

I'm personally hoping they don't replicate 2011 levels of easy. To have an exam where 77/80 is needed for an A+...wtf.
Spesh exams should be difficult; it IS, after all, the highest level of maths VCE has to offer. Although they've declined in recent years and I don't expect that to stop.

Have any of you done KILBAHA 2013?

All my Spesh Practice Exams were above 85%. Feeling confident, I tried to do the Kilbaha 2013. Big mistake.

Ended up getting 66%

I think I got 77/80 for that one. Took me less time, but I was more careless this time ):

That was actually quite annoying, the methods exam was harder than the spesh exam that year. Made absolutely stupid errors on spesh exam 1, which I still kick myself with to this day (yeah, it's just about the one thing in VCE that I can't let go of, everything else, meh :P) It meant that weird GA marks gave weird study scores though, guessing because rather than a certain group doing really well on both exams, you had people doing really well on one and bad on the other and vice versa. Like, I got a B+ for exam 1 and A+ for the other two GA but still got above 40 (41), where as a friend of mine didn't do as well on exam 2, got A+ A+ A and got a 39. Was quite odd really. Guessing the B+ was high B+ and the A was a low A, with my exam 2 A+ being high.

In other words, wish for a hard exam :P

What?? Wait, so in 2011, what separated a 46 from a 50?

I'm hoping for an exam comparable to the methods difficulty last year! I found that fair, and it clearly separated people well - there were only 5 or 6 people in the state who got full marks on both.

Me? Science degree at Melbourne Uni :P

Yeah... the number of marks in each exam are worth the same amount, so a score of 74 and 159 would be miles better than a score of 80 and 135, for instance.

I want an exam where the questions are actually not all 100% completely accessible. They've been like that for the past few years. I did a VCAA exam once at 11.30 pm, after an entire day of music, in 61 minutes and only dropped three marks the first time through. That's quite pathetic I think.

What?? Wait, so in 2011, what separated a 46 from a 50?

Someone told me that around 2 marks separated 50 from 47.

I'm hoping for an exam comparable to the methods difficulty last year! I found that fair, and it clearly separated people well - there were only 5 or 6 people in the state who got full marks on both.

Fair? It was soooooo short. I normally do exam 2s in 90 minutes; took me 70 minutes for that one. I dropped a mark still because I'm naturally careless and atrociously bad at spotting my own mistakes.

I found last year's methods too easy too. I finished in 69 haha bet you nliu 90 minutes

That was while there was still a separation between CAS and normal methods - only about of a quarter of the people did methods cas that year that did methods overall (I think).

Really? Omg you speed demons. I must've finished with 20 minutes to go. I guess I slowed right down to make sure I didn't make any mistakes though. Plenty of the people who got 40+ didn't finish - I think that indicates that it was pretty long for most people!

Wait could you explain to me how they used the quadratic formula? Lol

And do Hefferman 2012 if you want a confidence booster

Let u=sqrt x
yu=16u^2-32
16u^2-yu-32=0
Comparing it to the basic quadratic formula where b=-y, a=16 and c=-32
u=(-b+-sqrt(b^2-4ac))/2a
but remembering that u>0 as it is the square root of x: positive square root branch
u=(y+sqrt(y^2+4*16*32)/32=(y+sqrt(y^2+2048))/32
u=sqr x=>x=u^2
Squaring yields (y+sqrt(y^2+2048))^2/1024
