why is 1.728 for discus question wrong?

The thickness of the discus doesn't increase

it was cube root 720/500 right

What i did was 720 : 500 = 36 : 25

square root that to give 6 : 5

and then cube that giving 216 : 125

therfore you multiply the smaller discus by 216/125 to get the volume of the larger discus?

Did anyone else get this? :)

it said they were "similar". didnt say anything about having a constant thickness. Doesn't "similar" imply varying thickness?

Meant to be squared not cubed (there was a VERY similar trick question in the past VCAA exams where only 1% of the state got it right)

From memory I got 0.8? So if I am correct, you'll be okay with a few above and below.

Yes, I got times by 1.72. Squared then cubed

i got 0.9
dunno some people got 0.8 it depended on how you drew your line
hopefully vcaa markers mark that question on the line we drew

I know the diagram is not to scale, but it is further suggested since the discuss was MUCH larger but the thickness was EXACTLY the same
