MHS probably has more prestige (but less resources)

Really? Xavier is an elite private school, that usually carries a significant prestige/long term benefits bumper.

I might be making assumptions, but I've heard the MHS Old Boys Association is better connected than most others? Not as connected as with Scotch etc, but up there with the elite schools. Also Xavier's reputation these days isn't as great as it once was, going down the path of Wesley.

I reckon it really depends on the individual. I don't go to either school, but have mates at both and know a bit about about both of them as well. If I was in your situation though, I'd be choosing the one that I feel would give me a good "all-rounded" education - not just academic success. VCE is such a great social time too, and you want to enjoy it with good friends, and lifelong memories.

If it helps, ~25 from my year of MHS got Monash med (also 3 to JCU, 3(?) to UQ, 1 to UNSW, 2(?) UAdel, 1 to Griffith, 1 to Bond, maybe others) :) Last year a lot got in too, not as many but a fair few (high teens?).

I don't know much about Xavier at all.
But when I picture Xavier, I picture the cool red blazer and the yr 12 muck up day video that was on the news a few years back....
:/ but that's me.

That's completely understandable, but you seem like a motivated sort of guy - you'll succeed no matter what school you go to.
For high-ranking courses like Med and Law, if you want it to happen, you'll make it happen.
So who cares about the number of people that got into Med from MHS - it just so happened that there were more people who went there that wanted to do it. Don't let facts and figures get in the way of the sort of person you want to be  :)

Thanks. :D :D. I completely agree. But will MHS give me a better chance? What if I regret it?

Just choose the one hat lets you wake up latest in te morning.  If you'd have to get up at the same time, choose the one thy requires least effort to get to. QED.

Woah, just re-read what I wrote - hope I don't sound too anti-MHS, I've got anything at all against the school  :)

No school itself will 'give you a better chance'. It really comes down to the opportunities that you have and what you make of them.
Like most schools across the state, either Xavier or MHS will prepare you for a great future no matter what you want to do in life.

Just keep in mind, at the end of the day, it's your decision, not anyone else's. Take a tour of the school during a normal day if you can. Talk to current students who go there. Go where you feel most comfortable and at ease, and where you think you'll be most prepared for Med.

This is how I made my choice, it's far more important than people think :D

I'm not familiar with the MHS association for obvious reasons but on general principles I'd still be putting the elite private schools in a class of their own. Xavier in paticular is certainly extremely well connected in terms of its alumni etc.

Yes.
I am surprised that people even think this is a difficult decision. Not even close
Xavier over MHS every time.

Nah. I think its a really hard decision. Both are really good schools. It really depends on what you want out of a school.
