Anyone else stupid enough to do NaNoWriMo?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Novel_Writing_Month

Decided to do NaNo this month, just because procrastinating exam revision with Pokemon gets a bit too cliche. I only just started today (well, a couple of minutes ago).

I'm writing in first-person, even though I prefer third-person narration (FPN is just a bit quicker/easier to write imo). My protagonist is already an insufferable little prick and the writing is all disgusting and disjointed. CRY CRY CRY.

Figured I'd post on the off chance that someone else felt my pain(?!?!?!) If I don't give up on this before sunset I'll probably post sporadically in here with posts along the lines of "fml someone pls tell me to keep going". Anyway. Better go vomit some words. Yuck.

I would but I'm still struggling with my identity as an author but I'm thinking of joining competitions after exams :D

I've only authored short-stories for school. Safe to say my identity is lost within this docx. vile.
That'd be pretty cool though - you ought to!

I guess, but it breaks down to like, slightly less than 1700 words a day. If you do it from the start, anyway. I'll end up having to double that total for the last six days of November, assuming I meet the actual word limit everyday from now until the end of my exams.

If it's something you're interested it, I highly recommended it. I've been meaning to do it since 2009 and never thought I could make it work (lol). Now willl be your last chance to do it unhindered for the next 5 or 6 years, depending on your degree and if you take a gap year.

November is the shittiest month to do it. I might attempt it in a months time and then give up cause I don't have a novel in me
It's really not that hard to quantify..., but I believe that being raped once is not as bad as being raped five times, even if the one rape was by a gang of people.

It's because it was invented by North America. *shakes fist at the people who don't have exam season in November*

I did it in 2010. I'll do it next year.

ON MY GAP YEAR BABY.

I did it last year, not sure if I'll do it this year. I have this idea that I've been flirting with for a couple of weeks so I might make a start after my exams are finished on Monday.

Also, to everyone who's hesitant to do it, remember that you don't have to write 50,000 words! You don't even have to finish writing your novel before November is over, and it certainly doesn't have to be good (God knows mine wasn't). It's just a matter of participating and getting involved in the community and taking up the challenge to do something you've been wanting to do for a while but never found the motivation/inspiration to do so, or to do something you'd never thought about, just for the hell of it.

There's no experience like creative pursuit to nurture the soul and advance you as a human being (I'm going to refer you to my friend Kurt Vonnegut now) - http://www.lettersofnote.com/2013/10/make-your-soul-grow.html

I'm actually going to start writing short stories after VCE. I was inspired by Raymond Carver.

2,075 down, 47,925 words to go.
Doing this everyday is going to get a bit tough. Keen as for the challenge, though. For anyone interested, in that 2,000 words, my protagonist managed to muse about people on a train and gasp at the amount of Macs that people pulled out in his first lecture. Clearly, I have the plot line of a literary genius and the verbosity of someone trying to write 50,000 words in a month.

Good Luck, Brenden!

Looks like fun. :P I don't know much about the Competition, in fact zilch until you first mentioned it.

What do you get if you win? :D

I gave it a crack last year, didn't work out.
Now my inbox is flooded with NaNoWriMo 2013 reminders. Maybe next year.
