Colleges at Melbourne Uni?

Hi guys! I'm just wondering if anyone can give me some advice about living at a college at Melb Uni.

My first preferences are Queens, Ormond and Janet Clarke.

To give you a snapshot of my personality - I'm a nerd. Basically, I worked my ass off in high school and I'd like to go into a college to balance my life a bit more, get involved in the co-curricular aspects and meet new people. I sort of need to get away from the somewhat insidious high achieving days of high school, and the stigmatisation that follows. But I'm also really passionate about my education and don't want to let that part of me go, so perhaps a college with a more academic atmosphere might suit me better.

What do you think? Are colleges worth the money? I'm not very rich (and I live pretty close to the university tbh, location is not a problem) but fingers crossed I'll get some scholarships here and there based on my ATAR. If not, mum and I couldn't afford it so I wouldn't bother. But I'd still be paying a few grand a year to stay there.

Do any of you live at a college? What do you think of it?

Thanks! :)

I don't live at college, but from the mates that I've made that live at college, it's pretty sick. The 26k/year price tag isn't worth it imo, but that's just my opinion.

I've found college absolutely wonderful, even though I'm at the small one with the fewest extracurricular activities. Financial help is a thing, so if you can get some of that I fully encourage you to apply somewhere :))) Do not regret this move at all (and I have absolutely no money outside Centrelink and an equity bursary from the college, so money may not be a problem if you can present your case, though it depends massively on the college).
