I went to the 2013 VCESS. I would definitely recommend it  :)
There were six 1-hour lessons for each subject and people who can give extra help with subjects in spare sessions.
Also had activities, chances to meet new people and some time to explore the Uni.

Are applications still open or have they closed? I've found the website but can't find a registration link... so does it mean that it's closed?

Could someone please explain to me how it works? I'm finding it kinda hard to understand the website.
Do you attend the whole 2 weeks, and is the cost 190$ altogether or 190 per subject.

Just answering your two questions (haven't been before though):
Yes you do need to attend the whole two weeks (6-17 Jan) and it's $190 altogether rather than $190 per subject. You can find more information here: http://union.unimelb.edu.au/summerschool/summer-school-faq :)

Yes; as a class syllabus is structured over six lessons, it is within a student’s best interest to attend the full two week program.

The program is $190 for the entire two weeks, and the Residential Program is $570 which provides food, accommodation and supervision for the 2 weeks of Summer School (excluding the middle weekend).

so 190$ will allow you to go to the uni, and get lectures/tutoring from every/any subject you're doing?

I'm going! I'm doing the residential program and luckily I got the KLD discount which took the price from $595 to $295. I wouldn't have been able to afford it otherwise :)
