OK ..

Whats a limitation of the healthy living pyramid?

It doesn't provide advice on discretionary foods? No serving sizes.
Very broad and vague, 'in small amounts' is open to interpretation and has not been quantified

Lol kinda having a go at it x)

Also discretionary foods are shown as part of the pyramid, thus suggesting that these should still make up part of an individual's daily diet.

do fats, oils etc count as discretionary foods?

Discretionary foods: foods and drinks that are not neccessary to provide nutrients to the body needs but may add variety.
(i thought these were like alcohol, processed food etc.)

Jean Hailles for Women's Health - Bone Health for Life
A health initiative for women's health that aims to promote the health of Women in Australia. It provides practical advice and information for women in achieving and maintaining healthy bones through their website and also their women's clinic center. Through this program individuals are empowered with the increased knowledge on health thus are more likely to take care of their health through adopting health behavior lifestyles or diets that strengthen the bones.

idk what else to say ..

They would come under it

Here are some areas, we haven't addressed.
Whats the difference between fostering health security and strengthening health systems?
What are one characteristics of developed countries (economical, social and environmental respectively)?
What are two indicators of mortality strata's (be specific)
What is one advantage and disadvantage of the mortality strata?
What is a program that addresses safe water and h2o?

and I think we've tackled the whole course hahaha

- practical advice via website and factsheets (prevention)
- links to support services and groups to help people manage osteo
- online quiz to reinforce learning/education/understanding on prevention and osteo

We haven't addressed
Values that underpin health system
'Identify and and explain key components of Australia's health system' < study design
Describing purpose and importance for mdgs (i'm still confused as to how)

* Fostering health security is about reducing the risk of disease outbreak whereas strengthening health systems is about ensuring the health systems caters for all people, especially disadvantaged groups
* e: high average income, s: gender equality, e: access to food
* U5MR and adult male mortality 19-59
* advantage: countries that are experiencing similar health outcomes can be grouped and interventions can be targeted to them as a stratum.
no idea for disadvantage?????????????????????
* WASH- CARE australia, provides latrines (toilets), wells and water tanks, educates females on how to look after water sources, educates communities on how improve hygiene and sanitation. (it doesn't only address safe water but it addresses safe water and sanitation?)

Disadvantage is a troll, It doesn't take into account factors other than mortality.

Just confirming, for those nutrition boxes there are two types of questions right?
example: polyunsaturated fat

Outline one function: protects the organs and develops and maintains cell membranes
Outline one function as a determinant of health: reduces LDL and increases HDL, omega 3 prmotes elasticity of blood vessels and reduces blood clotting --> decrease risk of heart attack
and stroke
is that right? D: So we have to be super careful with the question true?

After consulting the study design, i don't believe we need to know the first function.. only the function as a determinant of health.
^ can anybody second this?

key knowledge:  the role of nutrition in addressing the following conditions recognised in the NHPAs: cardiovascular
disease, diabetes mellitus, colorectal cancer, obesity and osteoporosis, taking into account, where
relevant, the function (as a determinant of health) and major food sources of protein, carbohydrate
(including fibre), fats (mono, poly, saturated and trans), water, calcium, phosphorus, sodium and
vitamin D.

key skills: explain the role of nutrition in addressing specific conditions within the NHPAs, including the
functions
and major food sources of relevant nutrients.

^ actually on second thought, we probably do need to know the functions

I'm so confused, someone please tell me i'm going crazy x(

As far as i know we only need to know the role nutrition plays in addressing certain NHPA's (for example if they are a risk or protective factor), and then the function that acts to make that nutrient a protective or risk factor, and then food sources
does that make sense? haha not very clear sorry

Yeah I'd only use the bits relevant to the questions which a majority is associated with nutrients so in that case scrap the cell membrane stuff

Okay thanks lucas and belle :)

btw back to the discretionary foods thing, it doesn't include fats/butters and oils etc.
'...foods in this category include cakes, biscuits, chocolate, pastries, pies etc...'

Oh yes if you put into that context yes, you can just eat oil or plain fat

DISCRETIONARY FOODS IN THE NNPAS

The Australian Dietary Guidelines Summary lists examples of discretionary choices as including: "most sweet biscuits, cakes, desserts and pastries; processed meats and sausages; ice-cream and other ice confections; confectionary and chocolate; savoury pastries and pies; commercial burgers; commercially fried foods (cooked in oil); potato chips, crisps and other fatty and/or salty snack foods; cream, butter and spreads which are high in saturated fats; sugar sweetened soft drinks and cordials, sports and energy drinks and alcoholic drinks".
