Hi guys, I just wanted to clarify something. Is there a difference between "measure of health status" and "difference in health status (between population groups)". Can you use a indicator for both answers?

Yeah if you have to use indicators for all h-status questions.

Hope everyone's preparing well!

Does anyone know the difference between describing potential health benefits and potential health outcomes?
Apparently for benefits you talk about health status but for outcomes you mention PMS?

Thanks :)

I've spoken about PMS for both health outcomes and benefits in recent SACS + exams and have gotten full marks.

Think about it like this. A program (especially in terms of VicHealth) will not make health any worse than it already is. So the "health outcomes" have to be beneficial (i.e. they are the same things as the potential health benefits)

Okay thanks Smiley :)

also i'm still having trouble answering interrelationships and shd questions. How should the answer be broken down for 6 marks? And what's the difference between answering the two?

Sorry and thanks in advance!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it's 2 marks for health, 2 marks for human development and 2 marks for sustainability, but you have to weave them together. For example, how health would lead to human development and how development would lead to sustainability and how this, all together would lead to improvements in overall health (PMS)

Hey everyone,
I was just wondering whether emergency aid would be classified as sustainable? I've had one of two practice exams that ask to evaluate its sustainability/how it contributes to sustainable human development, but to me it doesn't really seem very sustainable as it is (a) short term and (b) doesn't focus on the causes of poverty but just on rebuilding the country back to its pre-disaster state. Am I going about it in the wrong way?  :-\

thank you! but how would the two marks be awarded? do i need to mention two dimensions of health? what about health status?
and what about the difference between answering interrelationships and shd?

I THINK... you would say something about how emergency aid (such as providing health services) helps to ensure the survival/health of the people so that they can achieve hd and then link to sustainability?

They're essentially the same thing - VCAA just likes to be tricky and catch people off guard. Sustainable human development is code for the interrelationships between health, human development and sustainability. In order to actually show the relationship between one concept to the next, it needs to be sort of like a domino effect (i.e. point no. 2 is a consequence/side effect of point no.1).

I suggest knowing the human development definition very very well, so you can pick out key parts of this definition to meet the human development bit. Also do a little plan off the side of your page to make the interrelationships clear to you before you begin writing your answer. I am of the belief that if you do this, it stops you falling into a trap where you start off too narrow/run out of things to say, because you can see where your answer will end up.

Also with sustainable human development, write a nice little concluding statement like "as health, human development and sustainability have been, sustainable human development could be achieved" or something similar to show the examiner that you understand that sustainable human development is all about the interrelationships.

Also when talking about sustainability, discuss how the future generations will be affected every so often too  :)
