chm1022 without chm1011

So basically, next year I'm going to use up some of my electives on engineering and possibly some science units because just to shake things up a bit.

Anyway, has anyone here done chm1022 without having done chm1011? I've had a very brief look into them and I think I like to look of chm1022 more, although its hard for me to say really at this stage. And being in semester 2 suits my course structure better too. It's not mentioned as a pre-requisite in the handbook, but it does say "Within CHM1022, students will exploit their understanding of general and physical chemistry discussed in CHM1011" which makes me question whether I would be able to keep up? The contact hours are double what I'm used to for com units, so if there is too much extra work that I need to do to keep up it'll end up being a pretty big commitment.

Any thoughts? How necessary is 1011 for 1022? Also, which of the two did you prefer? I did alright in, and liked, VCE chem if that has any relevance.

Cheers guys  :)

I've done CHM1011, but I didn't do CHM1022. Like you, I find a lot of the commerce units to be a bit dry, so when I was doing CHM1011 it was a really good break from my commerce units. In regard to the the contact hours, it really doesn't feel like much - You'll have a 3 hour lab but they were pretty good, they can get pretty intense but it's fairly enjoyable.

One of my friends did CHM1022 without doing CHM1011, he pretty much put in reaaaaally little work and passed comfortably. And given the fact you've done VCE chem will make it less taxing on yourself. From what I heard, the exam was fairly similar in format and content to the practice exams.

If you put in a bit of effort a HD is a pretty easy goal.

In my opinion, definitely go for it if you enjoyed Chem in VCE.

I have done CHM1051 & CHM1052, which are the advanced version of CHM1011 & CHM1022.
CHM1011 is about physical chemistry, whereas CHM1022 is about organic and inorganic chemistry. At first year level, they are not linked together whatsoever. You don't need any knowledge from CHM1011 in order to do well in CHM1022. The only thing that completing CHM1011 might be beneficial is that you will be more familiar with the whole lab thing.
Also, none of the topics in CHM1022 goes in much detail so yeah, if you put in a little bit of effort, a HD is pretty easy to get. Definitely go for it!

(I stopped going to lectures after Week 4, not that it's not useful, I just found it really boring and I just couldn't focus. I crammed the whole course in SWOTVAC by watching all the lectures on MULO in 5 days and doing past exams, and I still managed to get a 94.)

Thanks a bunch guys, that's very reassuring to hear! Looking like 1022 is the go at this stage.
