Would you ever consider for a moment hiring a tutor with no prior teaching experience and a SS of 39 for the subject?
Was never worried about my atar, I was only concerned about my lit SS, and I'm so gutted with this result. I can't do anything with it and it's the only thing I've ever been "good" at in high school.http://www.atarnotes.com/?p=tutoring

Actually, I would. Even if the person had a study score of like 35. They've been through VCE, and they have been taught. They know where they have made mistakes, thus they can pass on the knowledge they have with caution and attention to detail. Plus, 39 is that close to 40 that they wouldn't (or shouldn't) care.
ATAR: 98.10

hi,
just wondering how does SEAS work ?
I have already applied for it, I heard that once you apply for it you automatically get into access Melbourne?
Also how does the first round offers work?
How many courses do we get offered?
thanks
VTAC passes the application onto the institutions you apply for, the institutions make their adjustments, you don't find out what the adjustments were, if you make it into the course you receive a first round offer.

Access melbourne is just unimelb's fancy name for their SEAS program.
Iirc you get the offer highest on your preference list you get into to.

For both of you:
No one knows the 2014 clearly in, it could drop for all we know. Anyway you have a pretty good chance of getting in if you get .1 below.

just wondering how does SEAS work ?

If you are eligible for SEAS, they will effectively boost your ATAR, but only if the course that you are applying for recognises the SEAS disadvantage. It won't actually change your ATAR or study scores, but the universities will give you a better chance of getting in. They might pretend that your 80 was a 90, even though your certificate still says 80, for example.

I have already applied for it, I heard that once you apply for it you automatically get into access Melbourne?

If UoM recognises the SEAS you have applied for, then you are set to get Access Melbourne. For example, if you went to an underrepresented school that is on the list of schools they published, then you will automatically be eligible for Access Melbourne and will only require a 78 for Arts/Science/Environments, 88 for Commerce and 95 for Biomedicine, guaranteed entry.

Also how does the first round offers work?

Most people get the offer they want in their first round, but sometimes, if you came very close but didn't quite make the cutoff, they will give you an offer for the second round. Don't count on it though: if you're happy with your second preference and they gave you an offer for the first round, then you should accept it.

How many courses do we get offered?

You will only receive one offer per round. So if you messed your preferences up, you have until the 24th of December to change them. Otherwise, they start from your first preference and work their way down. If you decide that you want to do your second preference, but you were eligible for your first preference, then you will miss out. That's why it's important to get your preferences right: choose what you want to do first, not what you think you will/won't get into.

2013 ATAR - 88.50

Hi, quick question! Has anyone received any scholarship offers from Monash yet? (like a phone call or something?) Even though my ATAR is good I'm feeling somewhat defeated after working so so hard. :/
That said, I hope everyone is happy and proud of their efforts and results!! :)

Each university will look over your SEAS application and will then, depending on the extent of disadvantage, take it into consideration. University of Melbourne's SEAS program is called Access Melbourne, so yes applying for SEAS is the same as applying for Access Melbourne. What considerations that will actually be given you can find on the university websites (such as the Access Melbourne page).

You will receive one offer per round, which will be the course which you've preferenced the highest on your list. This is also why it's important to actually list your preferences in the order you want to do them the most. If you don't make it into your first preference, simple, they'll just look at your next preference and so on until they're able to give you an offer.

From VTAC, once you have an offer, you won't receive any other offers for courses you listed as a lower preference (unless you forfeit it and take a negotiated offer). Say in the first round you get your second preference. You won't receive an offer for your third preference in second round, but you may (not guaranteed) receive an offer for your first preference in the second round. If you get your first preference in the first round, you won't get any more offers (with the exception of the negotiated offer, which works a bit differently). You can find more information on the VTAC website here http://www.vtac.edu.au/results-offers/offers.html

Interstate systems might work slightly differently, but the gist of how preferences and all that work are mostly the same.
