I thought the ATAR was a percentile and the average was 50?

65.4 for girls and 63.3 for boys.
It is a percentile, but the average is higher because of a large number of students who drop out/fail and hence don't recieve an ATAR. Or, at least, that's what I've been told!
ATAR: 96.35
2012: Legal Studies (49)
2013: Literature (39), Psychology (42), Further Maths (42), Health and Human Development (38), Maths Methods (CAS) (31)
2014: BA/LLB (Monash)

From what I've heard, it is a ranking with the number of students who did yr 10 for that year level? People that do VCAL or drop out would be hypothetically given the bottom atars and the rest of us the ones above them

Does anyone know why sac scores are much lower than intended. Like the lettering doesn't match up?!
E.g. 43/50 = B+ and 46/50 = A

I'm assuming those numbers are the raw sac grades your teacher gave you. SAC scores undergo statistical moderation, which is what all that ranking business and other stuff is. So the scores your teacher gave you won't match to the moderated scores that are used to calculate your study scores.

I really need someones opinion of what i got:

Accounting - 24.28
English - 18.90
Mathematical Methods - 34.48
Specialist - 29.64
Information Technology - 24.48
Physics - 32.15

,by looking at it, how much do you think would this have?

Provided that I'm not making a mistake anywhere, but adding up your scaled scores will give you your aggregate (top 4, where english must be in the top 4 and then 10% of the bottom two subjects): 18.90+34.48+29.64+32.15 + 0.10 * 24.28 + 0.10 * 24.48 = 120.046
And then checking the aggregate to ATAR table for this year http://144.140.62.148/pdf/aggregate-ATAR.pdf which is 120.0: 64.40

Is that an example of what you wanted to see? I'm not quite sure what you're asking, or why you're asking it. At this stage it's probably better to start thinking about what you want to do next year. If you do feel disappointed and happened to miss out on the course you wanted to do, have a look at alternative pathways to the course too (similar courses that you can transfer into and so on). Don't be afraid to call up universities and just ask if there's any chance of them giving you an offer and what they'd suggest you to take, simply talking to them might prove valuable.

I've probably seen around five people concerned about their study score between the 50-75 range. Allow me to start off by mentioning that I am in that category, so this isn't just going to be some comforting post by some high achiever.

There are still plenty of opportunities at University for 50-75 ATAR students. You can still do well respected courses such as Business, I.T, Health Sciences, Education and Arts. These jobs can lead you into successful careers and further study. If you do well in your first year, you can transfer into another course (with ease internally afaik if you get good scores and there isn't a major demand).

I'm in contact with a few students doing I.T right now and are already making $40/hr part-time while studying fulltime. I have a friend who scored low 60s and he's working in computer security on great wages. I know some people programming casually and making good $$.

Same applies for non-IT subjects, you could be doing a few Accounting jobs here and there while making some $ and doing a job.

What I'm trying to get at is that you dont need a high ATAR to make money in life. I don't even think there is a strong correlation between ATAR/Financial success. I'd say it's somewhat moderate perhaps - I have no source so don't attack me here mr sauce(wo)men.

I got a 42 for Legal Studies which I am ecstatic about. I'm just wondering, what percentile does that place me in the state? If "9% of students will get a score on or above 40" and "2% of students will get a score on or above 45", I'm guessing I'm in the 6% or 7% of students?
