I personally didn't go to the lecture but had friends from school who did and the general feedback was that it was a waste of time.
The summer school lectures for each subject are useful as they give out very helpful notes, especially in subjects like bio and psych.
However in terms of 'succeeding in VCE' you are best off finding what works for you personally instead of taking advice from a long and tedious lecture. TSFX have a bit of a reputation for forking out money from students so I'd say only go to the summer school lectures if you feel that it's a pathway that will bring you further to being better prepared for your exams :)

Exactly what i thought. I really want to do it for 1 of my subjects, but i don't want to be lured into doing it for my other subject just for the succeeding lecture.

To be honest, when you actually think about it, theirs no "tricks" to do well in VCE and especially in succeeding. All you need is hard work and constant studying to do well (couple of visits to atar notes haha).

That being said,  i am doing 2 3/4s in year 11, but the dilemma is, in 2015 ill do year 12 with 4-5 3/4s so ill more then likely go to about 3-4 summer school lectures, so regardless i will be able to go to these succeeding in vce lectures, is it worth going this year? then to go again next year. I really want to do it for further, but i don't want to for business, but i really don't wanna go to the business one just for this lecture?

I haven't been to the 'succeeding in VCE' lectures myself (have been to a couple of headstart lectures though), but I don't think there is much merit in going to them.

My advice is to go to the lectures for the subjects which you think need them (perhaps subjects which are rather difficult, or subjects which you wish to do well in) - don't worry too much about the extra lecture (as you mentioned, it's a promotional tool, and I'm pretty sure it has the same content every year).

Succeeding in the VCE was the biggest waste of time (if I'm thinking of the right one anyway). I wouldn't go if it was free.

yeah, i agree with the above posts. it's not entirely free, you have to donate $10 to charity to attend the lecture,  but TSFX gets to claim credit for donating to charity each year (even though students are donating).

they give you some tips on studying, all common sense (such as not cramming) backed up with some psychology research etc. I highly doubt my studying techniques have improved as a result of attending this 3 hour lecture (waste of time). I think the ultimate message of this "free" lecture is to make you attend their masterclasses; =profit.

i had a look at the timetable, and it says 3 sessions of 3-4 hours. so all in all its about 9-12 hours. Not sure if its correct, but it says succeeding in vce session 1, succeeding in vce session 2, succeeding in vce session 3. on 3 different days.

I also thought the same, just all common sense, i think its all a trick for you to join 2 of their summer school lectures.

ill do 1 this year, and about 4 next year, so ill have a look next year at what they have to offer, no point doing 2 this year and going to it, only to go again next year.

Yeah, I've been to a couple of these "Free" lectures, even the exam-tailored one, at the time it seemed alright but after I was like, wow, that was useless  :-\ What is really important to succeeding in VCE, is to know what works best for you and maximise how you can cater for your own learning styles, techniques ect.. if you keep yourself organised, motivated and study in really efficient ways then success can really play into your hands  ;)

what i have learnt from going to WAY too many tsfx lectures last year:
- if it is not a subject specific lecture ie; methods, psych, then you should not go eg; if its called "ace your exams!!!" DO NOT GO
- headstart unit 3 and unit 3 revision lectures are literally the same thing
- dont even think abut going to succeeding the vce lectures and all the other gimicky ones - all the shit they teach you, you can find it out on atarnotes !! just passively being on this forum is good for you !! your time is worth more than going to the leture

Hah that makes perfect sense. The lecture is just a massive tax write off for them.

What about Mastering the VCE TSFX subject-specific "free" lectures? Are they worth the time?

You have to pay a minimum donation of $10 so technically its not free. My friends went to that lecture and said it WAS the biggest waste of time. Its conceptually like the succeeding in vce one but just a tad different. To be honest, i reckon you should just find the way that best suites you rather then listen to others, at the end of the day, everyone learns different, some like to read out loud, so like to read quietly. After talking to a few friends we all believe that TSFX use this as a promotional tool.

DO NOT GO TO THE ENGLISH ONES! i went to the unit 1 english mastering the vce lectures earlier this year, the lecturers were telling us things that are common sense like " don't use I, we, us" and things like "dont write movie but film". They didn't go through anything in regards to context, language analysis but put a whole lot of emphasis on text response. Hell, they even gave us correcting sentence activities. It was like being in year 8 lol. I went for chemistry as well, that one was a lot better since its only $10.

What are you guys talking about $10? My dad booked me sessions with this company involuntarily and it cost $500 for 6 subjects (6th free lol).
