So we need 75 breadth points over the 3 years of our bbiomed degree, yes?

This means if I do 2 breadths in 2014, I'll have 25 points. Which leaves me with 50 more points, meaning I have to do 2 breadths in level 2 and level 3, right?

In a breadth track, isn't there 5 breadth subjects? Does this mean that the breadth track you choose compensates for the entire 3 yrs of the bbiomed degree?

Would you recommend going with the breadth tracks option, or handpicking your own breadths? And why? THANKS!

50-75 points. You've got 25 points to do whatever the hell you like :)

But yeah, essentially, 2 each year would be the normal way. But you can do 3 max of level 1 and then the rest level 2 or 3, doesn't matter.

The uni suggests one breadth track, but it's up to you.

much appreciated Mr. T-Rav, but I'm still not satisfied with the answer to handpicking breadths vs. breadth tracks. A little more info would be nice.

So I can have a total of 50 breadth points over the 3 years of my degree? But, it's better for the GPA if I have 75 breadth points overall?

You can. It depends on your aptitudes. As a rule of thumb, just go with what you enjoy whether that be breadth or extra science.

Well the University suggests that you do one breadth track at least, and you can handpick the rest. It depends on what appeals to you. If there's a track that appeals to you, I'd suggest doing it because it makes your life easier (less decisions to make). Otherwise, if not, just handpick. It won't make a difference.

You don't need to do 75 breadth points. You need only a minimum of 50. The remaining 25 points can come from your selectives in 2nd year:

Quote from: Unimelb 2013 Handbook for Biomedicine
50 points of breadth subjects including at least 12.5 points at Level 2 or Level 3
25 points (either biomedicine/science discipline subjects or breadth subjects) at Level 1, 2 or 3

So you only need to do a minimum of 4 breadth subjects throughout your entire degree, you won't need to pick one every semester for your degree unless you really want to. You can do like 2 breadths in 2014 and then choose one breadth each in 2015 and 2016 for example.

I'm not on a breadth track so I can't really say. I handpick them really lol, there's a lot of interesting stuff to learn.

So I can have a total of 50 breadth points over the 3 years of my degree? But, it's better for the GPA if I have 75 breadth points overall?

If you're going for the MD, here is how they calculate your GPA. The number of credit points doesn't impact your GPA.

Would just like to say, a breadth track is just a set of breadth subjects that the university thinks work well together or synergize in some way. You are just enrolled in three separate individual subjects that constitute what they call a "track" and they recommend to new students purely to make it easier for them to choose breadth. If you have interests you want to do, pick them. If you don't pick a level 1 breadth and if you like it, follow the track.
