Ehhh... trying to do an 'engineering' major whilst trying to get lab experience and having to m

If anybody feels like taking a look and offering suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it.

Wow. You are quite the polymath. The bio aspects of our study plans are polar opposites; yours focuses on the cellular level while mine looks at the wider picture (anatomy, organ systems, etc). I admire those who are capable of the abstract thinking that cell biology requires.

Idk if this will influence your decision but without second year lab work you can kiss your hopes of a UROP placement goodbye...if that's something you're wanting to do.

I'd do the one with the labs but on the other hand you said you're not interested in that subject and I always think people should choose stuff they're interested in...what about another lab subject that isn't that one?

Really valuable point, thank you for mentioning it! Today is the last day I can change due to the amount of quota subjects in my study plan (quota deadline is the 22nd and I need waivers due to my transfer).

This morning I was going to email for a waiver regarding Comparative Animal Physiology and enrol. Contact with the  coordinator of Comparative Nutrition and Digestion has been unreliable. They haven't even bothered putting up the textbook list for the class. And I sgfdksjfgi love the laboratory when I'm actually in one. It's pre-practical where I'm nervous I'll burn the building to the ground. I become nervous because I love and overvalue it. I definitely don't love exams and consequently/strangely are less nervous about my performance in them. That's despite having never actually broken, dropped, etc anything in the lab...BUT THAT JUST MEANS MY TIME IS NIGH.

However, I just can't muster enthusiasm for Animal Physio's content. I wouldn't have the stamina to concentrate and the poorer grade would likely affect my UROP chances as well. I'll take a fourth look at the second year science credits, but most of what I like is third year and I may be better off taking a short course in lab techniques over the summer (which I was contemplating doing for fun regardless).  Ughh I'm literally sadder that I won't be in a class with LeviLamp, over potentially missing out on UROP. And UROP is amazing.

On the plus side, taking Comparative Nutrition and Digestion over Comparative Animal Physio means an exam worth 15% less lols. And I think I'll probably slide into the quota subjects despite leaving them until semester 2, as my first year average is a H1. I think. I hope.  :o

I love game theory. Took a workshop on it while in high school which is what motivated me to study economics at university.

Are you also majoring in Eco along with English? Or just taking some micro?

Intro Micro and Macro, Inter Micro and then a bunch of economics electives. Ain't got enough credit points or patience to major in Econ.

Heh, I guess that I can finally share my subject "choices" now that I've enrolled (not that they're a surprise - it's first year Biomedicine we're talking here).

Semester 1
  • BIOL10002 Biomolecules and Cells
  • MAST10016 Mathematics for Biomedicine
  • CHEM10006 Chemistry for Biomedicine
  • ITAL10001 Italian 3

Semester 2
  • BIOL10003 Genes and Environment
  • MAST10011 Experimental Design and Data Analysis
  • PHYC10007 Physics for Biomedicine
  • ITAL10002 Italian 4

I just sat my online placement test for Italian this evening... That was pretty much the hardest LOTE assessment I've ever done in my life. I'm being serious when I say that more than half of my test was incorrect or left blank, so I'm a little bit flummoxed as to how I even managed to get Italian 3 (which is the level I am supposed to enter at given my prior knowledge). Throughout the whole ordeal I was just thinking "Oh God I've just fucked this up and I'm not going to even get Italian 3 anymore." XD I haven't studied the language for over 12 months now so I was incredibly rusty; despite my initial doubts, I don't think studying for it would have made any difference whatsoever. :|

To anyone who needs to sit an online placement test for a LOTE and is yet to do so - it's going to be a bit of a challenge so good luck. And don't even think about cheating since the formatting of each task is incredibly clever. There's really not much you can do at all.

I absolutely adore cellular and molecular level biology ... For me it's the best part.... It's just incredible.

Thanks simpak for your super kind and encouraging words :-) I will definitely still apply all three times I can for UROP - it's all I can do! x

If it were possible to recommend people I would recommend all of you guys ie Ballerina as well!  I wish it were possible!

This thread is getting a tiny bit off track. Let's just limit it to subject selections.

Can I ask why you'd suggest that?  :)

Also, I was planning on taking Linear Algebra over the summer semester.

Because Intro Macro is a great subject. Most of what I've heard about Finance 1 suggests it's pretty bludgy, and that you could learn most of it from a textbook, and I think Macro would be much more valuable. Also, you can do two subjects over summer semester, if need be.
