Bachelor of Economics Advanced with Honours here! :D

Should I bother doing MTH1020, or go straight to MTH1030?
Monash seems to have multiple different prerequisites for MTH1030, with those being:

1) MTH1020
2)Completed VCE Specialist Maths 3/4
3)Completed VCE Specialist Maths 3/4 with at least a B average in the exams
4)Completed VCE Specialist Maths 3/4 with a study score of at least 30

I did Specialist Maths in VCE with only a S/S of 32 (and 37 for Methods), with a B+ in Exam 1 and a C+ in Exam 2. Any opinions? I just hope I won't struggle in MTH1030, especially if there is Linear Algebra (hardly did anything with matrices in Methods apart from Probability and Transformations of Functions).

According to the handbook, you're fine if you want to take MTH1030 as you have a study score above 30. Also, your exam grades average to a B, so that's fine too :)

MTH1030 is apparently pretty tough, but you'll always be taught what's necessary for that unit. If you're not confident about 1030, you can always take MTH1020 and do 1030 if you feel up to it the following semester!

I'll probably go straight to MTH1030. Just read my handbook and the prerequisites for MTH1020 is MTH1010 or Methods with an average exam mark of a C, so it sounds a little bit like a waste of time, especially since it is MTH1030 which is a compulsory unit for me.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but am I able to take MTH1035 instead of MTH1030? My course requires MTH1020 or MTH1030, but given that MTH1035 is just an extension of MTH1030 can that count as the unit?

Yep, 1035 is just the advanced version of 1030, so it can take its place :)

Stupid, stupid question, but how on earth does enrolment work? Do we turn up on Wednesday? What do we need?
If you don't know the answer to a question, chances are it has something to do with changing the surface area to volume ratio or resonance.

I thought you just followed the prompts online, and then rock up to Monash when they tell you to...
I think you need the vtac offer letter, some stuff printed out from wes and photo ID? (I think there's something else too)

Wednesday? Everyone's on a different day right? Cos I'm on the 29th...

At least you have electives :P

A lot of people take electives from the Faculty of Arts. Here's a list of areas of study from the Faculty of Arts that you might like to take some electives from?

You might like to pick some things that have no exam, like ATS1305 - Introduction to Film Studies :)

can anybody give me insight into ENG1071, the chemistry for engineering unit? It requires yr12 chem as a prereq but in the description it seems like it's just going over yr12 chem. Also I've only heard bad things about materials engineering, can anybody here give an opinion on that too? Thanks :) (btw I've looked and these aren't in the review thread)

edit: changed ENG1070 to ENG1071

Sorry, this may sound like a stupid question but can you still enrol in subjects online if you haven't got a tax file number? I applied for one today and am up to step 3 (on WES I can't move past the HECS loan section and onto the enrol in your units section).  Should I leave it until course enrollment day which is on the 29th for me?

And also, has anyone received an offer letter from monash yet? Will this come in the mail soon or should it have arrived already?

Thanks

There's 2 sessions for each faculty I think. Coming Wednesday (22nd) is the Course Information day where they help with unit selection and all, and the 29th is the actual enrolment day for everyone where you pick up your ID card and confirm your unit selection. Although the course information day may or may not be the same for each faculty.

I asked the same question previously, and it turns out you need to actually fill out the HECS Help section in order to go on and enrol into units.

And yep, i just checked my mail and it included a welcome-pack sort of thing.

Just enrolled in units, was pretty lucky in the fact that I can do MTH1030 (needed 30 for spesh, got 31) and CHM1055 (needed a 37 in chem or 90ATAR, got a 37 in chem). Is anyone else in the same situation as me, not having a TFN and having no idea what to do for the HECS part? (I just chose up front for now)

EDIT: just saw previous posts, I think upfront is the best idea and take the form that shows you've applied for one with you when you go to the information sesh.

My enrolment day is the 28th, and a mate says his letter showed the 30th for enrolment
