hi im just wondering is the clearly in rank the lowest score to be able to be accepted into a course
for example bachelor of commerce at melbourne uni has a clearly in rank of 95. does that mean that if i achieve an atar of say 88 or 90 i wouldnt be accepted into the  course??
thanks

No, it's the rank that you are "clearly in" for. If you get over that mark, you are more or less guaranteed to get in. To put it another way (Certainly a more correct way), every qualified applicant over that ATAR score got in. ATAR's are not set ahead of time, its a supply and demand thing. This is why they change from year to year based on the demand for that course and the scores of the students applying for that course. Theoretically, if only people with ATARs of 60 applied for melbourne science, the clearly in would be 60.

It is possible to get accepted if you are under the clearly in but it is not a sure thing. Usually under the clearly in they take into account things like SEAS, middle band subjects, etc.  Unless you're eligible for access melbourne or have a lot of SEAS, i'd advise you its not likely you'd get into a course requiring 95 with an atar of 90 or 88.

Agree with everything posted. However, Melbourne does have a MINIMUM ATAR for any instances where demand does not meet the actual supply.

For example for commerce, where the minimum atar is 93 - if there hadn't been enough students with an atar greater than 93 applying; they will only accept applicants who have achieved at least an atar of 93 (unless they have SEAS or any other sort of special consideration).

This situation probably will never happen given that commerce has remained relatively stable in terms of demand (roughly 95 for the past decade).
