Hey guys, I figured out my timetable using the 2014 times from the Handbook and this is what I ended up putting together: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8421092/timetable.png

Would you consider it a good timetable? Should I also be planning my Semester 2 timetable right now?

Also, when looking up Maths courses I saw something called Maths-C. What does the C mean?
Personally I wouldn't consider that a good timetable. And yes I plan my semester 2 timetable too in case I need to swap sem 1 and 2 subjects around to get the best timetables.

Story of my life.

Fridays off (most likely, but depending on breadth slot my friend picks), quite a few 8 am starts: ANAT30007?

Story of my life also!! 3 x 8am starts...definitely watching one on lectopia!!
I'm very happy with Friday completely off :)

Does lectopia mean they are only audio recorded? I dont like the lecture times for one my subjects so i looked up the subject guide and it said: "notes, as some important explanations of the material are not provided on the slides. Note also that the audio from the lectures will be recorded and available to students using the University’s Lectopia system, which will be accessible via the LMS (see details below)."

Dam, does that mean no video recording? :(

There is video but it's not of the lecturer, it's of one of the screens in the theatre. If the lecturer chooses to use the other screen, or the blackboard, or any other means to explain something, you will only get audio.
Some lecturers are really diligent with the Lectopia recordings and pay attention to making sure they draw/write/explain in a way that records well, others don't give a toss. and you never know which one is going to be good or bad until the semester has begun. It is NOT a good idea to depend solely on Lectopia. For first year Biology it's fine, and probably for Chemistry too. I wouldn't recommend it for first year Maths subjects although some of the lecturers are good about it.

Also if the lecturer doesn't use the microphone or the microphone is broken you can lose the audio too. Hence a bad idea to depend on Lectopia.

On the topic of lectopia, it's more often than not both video (of the slides, not any hands on demonstrations lecturers may do), although they can be audio only if the lecture only speaks without slides or if the video capturing system was faulty, which happened to me for ANAT20006 last sem for quite a while.

MDHS quota subjects take around 7-10 business days to fill in their slots, this is only the 7th business day, so it wouldn't be out of the norm until if its past Wednesday. The longer time taken might be due to the smaller limited number of spaces (160) or an overwhelming number of applicants compared to that amount, I'm guessing.

Either way, I suggest you make (if you haven't already) sample timetables of your 3 other subjects with PATH30002 and one for the other 3 subjects with your PATH30002 backup.

JIC you need PATH30002 times: https://sis.unimelb.edu.au/cgi-bin/subjects.pl?scode=PATH30002&year=2014

I don't have any clashes so I'm not sure if I qualify for this thread... but could anyone more experienced help this nooby first year?
What do you think of this timetable? Is my syncopated Friday a good idea? Is one hour enough time for lunch.. etc?

Moving French on Tuesday is not really an option :(

Thanks in advance if anyone can help!

You don't really need clashes to qualify to post here lol, but on the topic...

I'd try to even some things out and move some Friday stuff to Tuesday if you don't have particular personal plans for that big free white space. If subjects near (location wise) each other have like a 1 hour gap between them then it's kind of a waste, and I'd consider moving that sometime else instead. (the Chem tute on Friday in particular, it'd give you 3 hrs worth of breathing room)

Just make sure you're gonna be able to deal with those 3 8ams in the week

Hey, thanks for this. Yeah sort of unfortunate about those 8am lectures. I think I'll move that chem tute to Wednesday and swap my Wednesday mast tute to Friday at 12pm.. that gives me 2 hours for lunch on Friday. An ideal amount of time to get pasta on lygon street by myself!
I might unload some of my Wednesday onto Tuesday morning, but I'll have to play around with that a bit more :)

Hi. Can anyone offer some suggestions as to what I can do? I'm at a loss as to how to organise my Micro and QM1. They don't seem to fit too well around Chinese and Computing, both of which I'd prefer to leave as is.

(Image removed from quote.)

I think QM1 and Micro lectures are linked. So you could do T & Th 10-11 Intro Micro Lec then 11-12 QM1 Lec. You usually have a 10 minute allowance in between so Arts West to the Spot is okay

Okay I will see what I can do. Thanks!

When registration starts at 10am is it just a free for all with registering for classes, or do you automatically get assigned some classes or something?
