Sorry, I'm not really good with any of this stuff and I panic at the sight of finance.

Earlier today I received this message

Quote
Dear ...
You have received this message because you are commencing a new course enrolment in 2014 and will be charged a Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). You will shortly receive an invoice for payment of the SSAF for 2014.  You will be notified by email to your University email account when your invoice is issued and will be able to access it via your student portal.
How and When do I Pay the SSAF?
You will be required to pay the SSAF by the 31 March 2014. The methods of payment are detailed on the pay-in slip of your Student Invoice.
Or
If you are  eligible and wish to defer payment to a SA-HELP loan, you can submit a request for SA-HELP through the student portal; select the Student admin tab, Go to fees, Apply for Commonwealth Assistance, ensure you select the course to which you are Admitted, submit a new form,  select Request for SA-HELP Assistance.
How much will I be charged?
You will be charged $281 for a full-time enrolment (0.75 EFTSL, or 75 points or greater across the calendar year), or $210 for a part-time enrolment (less than 0.75 EFTSL or less than 75 points across the calendar year.
What is SA-HELP?
SA-HELP is a government funded loan scheme which will allow eligible students to defer payment of the SSAF.
Australian citizens and permanent humanitarian visa holders are eligible for SA-HELP.
New Zealand citizens and permanent residents are not eligible for SA-HELP and must pay SSAF upfront.
Requests for SA-HELP can be submitted through the Student Portal.

I've already applied for HECS, so what is this SSAF and SA-HELP? So confused. They didn't actually tell me what it was. I'm new to all of this can someone please explain!

Thanks.

SSAF is a separate application to your HELP loan application but it's just added to the loan.  You apply to defer the payment onto HECS through the portal.  It's just money the university charges you because they can.

^ How do I defer it through the portal?

I need super clear directions, I fuck everything up. I followed their directions and it just takes me to my HECS application. :o The site is a nightmare to navigate, and nothing is becoming clearer.

Okay so I've applied for SA-HELP (apparently SSAF will become optional for me now when my invoice arrives). Still, can someone PLEASE define the difference between HECS and SA-HELP?

Q: What's the difference between the different loans? (HECS-HELP, FEE-HELP, VET FEE-HELP, OS-HELP, SA-HELP)

HECS-HELP is only available to eligible students enrolled in a Commonwealth support place studying a higher education qualification. FEE-HELP is only available to eligible fee paying students undertaking a higher education award course. Irrespective of whether a student receives a loan under FEE-HELP or VET FEE-HELP, one FEE-HELP limit applies. VET FEE-HELP assistance is generally available to eligible full fee paying students undertaking higher level VET qualifications (diploma, advanced diploma, graduate certificate and graduate diploma courses). Irrespective of whether a student receives a loan under VET FEE-HELP or FEE-HELP, one FEE-HELP limit applies. OS-HELP is available to eligible students enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place to undertake some of their study overseas. SA-HELP is available to eligible higher education students pay their student services and amenities fees.
