Do you think medicine is for me?

I've just started a bachelor of health science at monash and am LOVING the anatomy/physiology part of the course. I actually don't really enjoy the other subjects in the course, but the human biology part is fantastic. I can't see myself continuing with the course as the only biology part is only first year so I am looking for an alternative course that fulfils my love for anatomy/physiology.
So now I've been thinking about medicine. I've never thought about this before, mainly because I get a bit faint around needles and blood. But now I've found my love for anatomy/physiology, I'm wondering if I should try to get over this.
Is this feeling something I can get over or is medicine not for me?
Furthermore if medicine is the right decision, what are the best options for medicine courses for me (given I want to change courses now)? I got an atar of 99 but I didn't do chemistry or the umat.
Thanks everyone! :D

If you are thinking about medicine you probably will encounter blood and needles during the course from hospital visits but you have to ask a med student about that.

And medicine graduate isn't limited to being a doctor there are alternative career paths you can get, moreover since you are looking into biomed there's more pathways for you to choose from.

Have you thought of other careers involving science or more specifically physiology? Like teaching? If your heart is set on working with people and dealing with health issues, maybe physiotherapy and dietetics, I think they don't deal with a lot of blood and needles. But then again there may be some types of doctors that don't deal with blood and needles too.

Your ability to deal with blood and other stuff that may look scary to you depends on you, so have a good think about it to ensure you don't regret later.

There is a great deal of anatomy in physiotherapy if you enjoy that aspect. I don't know what your subjects were though, so you might have not met the pre reqs.

Yes - there is going to be blood and you'll have to deal with it, ideally without passing out in front of the patient who you are taking blood from (for example). Pretty much every doctor (other than psychiatrists?) will deal with blood at some stage, some more-so than others.

No - I don't think being queasy to blood alone is going to be a big enough problem to stop you from doing medicine, most people do get over it and become desensitised to it all.

Best of luck!
