1/2 Tuition Necessary?

I'm in Year 11 doing 1/2 Eng Lang and would like some opinions regarding Eng Lang tuition.
Right now I have an Eng Lang tutor ($60/hr) but I feel like we're just going through the textbook, something I can clearly do by myself. Also, I've heard from numerous people that a lot of 1/2 Eng Lang isn't even relevant for 3/4. I want to focus on my writing and other language analysis skills that will help me in 3/4.

So should I:
1) stay with my tutor and see how things go
2) find another tutor and still work on 1/2?
3) find another tutor and focus more on 3/4 content?
4) not have tuition for eng lang until next year

:/

Note: I live in SE Melbourne and finding an eng lang tutor wasn't particularly easy. I know a person that used to do eng lang at Tye and English and enjoyed it but I'm not overly fond of classroom-setting tuition... (I might reconsider if I hear more good reviews about it)

Thank you :)

Personally, unless your struggling, you shouldn't be needing a tutor - especially considering it's only 1/2.
The majority of terminology is found in Unit 1. Don't forget your teacher at school!

Thanks for your feedback.
I know a lot of people only hire a tutor when they're struggling in school but I don't want to fall into a situation where I discover I need help and there's not enough time to do anything about it.
Based on past reports, my writing skills now are probably enough to scrape an average of A in eng lang, but I know I can do so much more to improve myself.
I'm aiming for a 45 in eng lang and I feel like I won't be able to achieve my goal if I don't put in any work outside of school.

Sorry, mini rant. Hahaha

$60 an hour, jeez. imo thats heaps for 1/2 tuition, but then again it depends on his/her credentials.
Your school teacher is probably the best resource you can have, they are your tutors.

I really believe you should have study groups from people at school, and maybe once a week meet up in the city and do 3 or hours work on what you guys are struggling on.

she must be living in luxury.

If you don't mind, what are her qualifications?

I can't find her ad page anymore but from memory I think she has a degree in linguistics and she's been tutoring for English language and three vce languages for a while now. She also works part time as a translator..
Really lovely woman. A little too nice even... Hahaha

Wow!  Where was that one advertised?

In answer to the original question, you should ask the tutor to focus on only the aspects relevant to Year 12.  I have one student who comes to me every fortnight, and that's what I'm doing with her.  You're paying her, she should focus on the work that you're interested in - but don't forget she's not a mind reader, you need to tell her what you need.  If she's not interested, THEN find someone else.

I found her ad on Gumtree hahaha

And yeah i will ask. However from what i know i don't think she's interested in deviating too much from school material :S She relies pretty heavily on the textbook content and asks me regularly what i'm doing in school and what i would like to work on even though we have decided to "follow the study design". I think she's more of the traditional tutor that helps students that are struggling with school work. I'm looking for more of an independent tutor that can guide me since i dont have the same affinity with eng lang as i had with standard english.

Yeah.. it's pretty extraordinary. Although if you don't get kicked out by him, apparently the lowest a student has gotten after 2 years of tuition was a 44 raw or something ridiculous.

And the waiting list was 15 students the last time I asked.

Yeah I'd like to know as well LOL

But seriously 15 people on a waiting list? That's pretty insane especially with that hourly rate as well..  :-\

Who?

Think he's called Dr Li (Lee?) or something like that. No advertisements even needed.

Tutors sciences I think.

Edit: Think i'm straying a bit off topic here so let's just end this here. Pm if you want to discuss further (I have limited contact details as my parents have only made an enquiry) and i don't know how he conducts tutoring etc.

Sorry vanilla haha!
