Starting a school newspaper?

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone's had experience starting/editing/reading a student newspaper at their school? I'm toying with the idea of getting something going at my school, so I'm looking for other people's experience to see what makes for a thriving student publication (by thriving I mean read by more than 5 people and the editor). I know a few people on atarnotes have started their own publications, so any advice from experiences like that would be greatly appreciated :)

I know it's a bit of a late reply, but considering you got none I thought it might still be valued :p

I didn't personally start it, my friend did. He approached the school counsellor and got him to get proper approvals from the school and advertise in the school newsletter and bulletin. While it hasn't exactly thrived, allowing people to write what they are interested in allows for more contributions and more people benefiting from the publication. We haven't had much success in terms of copies read/published, but the experience is good for your resume anyway. This will appeal to a lot of older year levels, so I just say go for it :)
