Is drinking coffee  before an upcoming SAC,Exam or major study a 'good' idea?

i think sleeping more before the SAC would be a better alternative than staying up all night and then relying on coffee to wake you up :) personal experience... coffee didn't really wake up that much anyways :)

Coffee is so good! Works perfect for me. Plus there are proven health benefits from coffee.

I always drink coffee (buy them) the morning of an important day (ie. SAC etc). But I never go more than one cup a day.

Well unless you have a particularly adverse reaction to caffeine, I wouldn't say it's a 'bad' idea.
I absolutely love a morning coffee and a bakery snack before settling down to study or for an exam.  In fact I feel all scattered if I don't have one because it's such a routine now.  I find just one coffee helps me focus and I also just really enjoy the taste.

How much coffee is considered 'too much'?
Since year 12 started I've been having a cup a day and I have no idea if that is bad or not

If you're used to drinking coffee often then drinking it before a SAC or exam could be a good idea.

But if you rarely drink coffee and decide to drink it just because you have an exam, it may end up messing you up because you're not used to it.

To be honest in VCE I drank on average 4 cups of extra dark roast coffee everyday.

Yes why not :)

Although I wouldn't become totally dependent on it - some crazy things began happening to me at the beginning of the year and one of the reasons was because of caffeine overdose..

Caffeine is actually rather complicated when you look at he results for memory, learning and performance. Some studies show positive effect, some show none and indeed, some show a negative effect (your memory/learning/performance is worse). Either way, these effects are usually fairly mild.

If you are using it to enhance your performance, it might not be as great as you'd expect. If you're doing it just for this reason, i reckon you should just stay away from it. If you like the taste/enjoy it or anything else, it's probably worth it. Same for a day if you're dead tired you'll perform a little better (honestly, nothing replaces a good nights sleep though).

If you are not used to coffee and had a reasonable amount of sleep, i would absolutely not recommend you drink it before a SAC/Exam. The caffeine dose in coffee is rather high, for someone who is not tolerated to it, it will likely impact you negative rather than positively (anxiety/jittery/harder to focus).

I have been drinking coffee for about 2-3 years now, after getting a job in a coffee shop. I personally feel weird if I don't have a coffee in the morning, so I've been sticking with this routine during all of year 12 so far. It hasn't caused me any problems - yet.

Personally I don't drink coffee but whenever I have a SAC/Exam I take Berocca in the morning :)
It's done it's job pretty well so far so I feel no need to go with coffee yet..
