Hi,

Just a quick questions for all MCB students who have already done the third CAL, what does it actually entail, is attendance compulsory, how is it assessed and how to prepare for it.

Thanks for your the invaluable help.  :)

The assessment for the CAL is pretty stupid - it's just the pre-CAL test on basic cell cycle stuff from last year. You get multiple attempts and you have to get 10/10 to do the CAL...so free marks for everybody.

You can leave right after if you want, attendance wasn't recorded (probably because of the pre-CAL test). A lot of the CAL is focused on what Robb went through in his second cell signalling lecture. G1-Cdk complexes, Rb, p53, E2F blah blah. There's also hallmarks of cancer on there. Download the worksheet from the LMS and answer the questions on it as you read through the CAL.

Thanks Shenz0r.

Is there someone there actually explaining things or is it all just done on the computer?

Assessment is shit easy (have a race with your mates to see who can get 10/10 the quickest). As far as Robb is concerned, 2% isn't worth trying to differentiate students, so unlimited tries etc. Practically guaranteed 100%. Attendance isn't marked, though they check who logs in (so they say; I doubt it).

Robb and the tutor are there for questions, but the CAL itself is self explanatory. It's a really well-written CAL to be honest and will be good revision for what we covered in the signalling lectures.
