Have I ruined my chances of a perfect study score?

I have received the following marks for my two SACS that I have so far completed in Psychology 3/4:

SAC 1: (worth 5% of the whole year's marks) I received 89%

SAC 2: (worth 5% of the whole year's marks) I received 84%

Have I already ruined my chances of receiving a perfect study score with these two A grades? I was under the impression that to get a 50 you would need consistent high A+s on every assessment!

What kind of grades does it take to get a 50 and is there any way to still achieve this?

Thanks

Your ranking within your cohort is more important than your raw SAC score average. So if you've got a good position in your cohort, no, your chances of a perfect SS are not ruined.

Nope. I averaged around 88-89% for Unit 4 SACs. Like Yacoubb said, ranking is much more important

Ditto again.
Lost marks throughout the year but was rank 1. It's the ranking that's most important.

think of it this way, if you got 60%, but you were rank 1, you've done the best out of everyone. say you got the same score but was rank 40... you know the flow.

Thanks for all of your replies, I appreciate it :)

So, basically, your raw marks for SACs do not matter at all but for ranking? So you're telling me that a) a student who is ranked 1st in their cohort with all mid-A grades, then full marks the exam and b) a student who is ranked 1st in their cohort with all high A+ grades, then full marks the exam too are actually equal in the grand scheme of things and will get the same study score? Surely those little marks make some sort of a difference! This just confuses me!

Sorry if I come across as naive or am repeating what every other person is asking! I just can't really fathom any of this technical stuff.

Pretty much. This has to be done in order to make SAC marks "fair" across the state. So in the example you provided above, what if student A's school had extremely difficult SACs and student B's school had very easy SACs? It would be unfair for student A. So VCAA basically looks at the ranking of students and scales scores up and down based on exam performance - the exam is the same for everyone, but the SACs aren't.

Oops! All sounds embarrassingly clear and obvious to me now! Makes perfect sense - I MUST'VE known that SACs would have to be adjusted according to different schools before...

Thanks - and excuse my naivety!

So it all really comes down to the exam and ranking... Whew...

With SACS, if I am in like the top 5 of the cohort regardless if whether the marks are shitty or not, can you still get like a high study score? I was reading the Graded Assessment Statistics and it says you need like ~93-100 for GA1 to get an A+ in Economics which is pretty much a prerequisite for a 40. If I got like 60/100 (which I won't do that badly) but I was ranked like second, could I still get like a 40+ because I really don't understand the correlation of SAC marks, rank and study score. Kind of sucks because in some subjects where I'm ranked highly I've still dropped several marks and am already close to being under the A+ position and think about these subjects being one of my best to motivate me, but then I think I can't get an A+ nor 40, so I just give up. Pls explain!

According to what everyone is saying/common knowledge previously unbeknownst to me, your raw marks really don't matter and it's about your ranking out of your cohort for SACs - apparently teachers will only send the RANKING for students in SACs to VCAA, not their actual marks.  :)

Which brings me to another burning question!

Is what matters your total SAC ranking at the end of the year or your SAC ranking for each unit?? Hoping that the answer is the former - I need more time to boost whatever my ranking is!!!

Depends on the subject. Each GA is it's own ranking. For a subject with one exam only, unit 3 sacs are one GA and unit 4 sacs another GA. For subjects with two exams, e.g. maths, one GA is for all SACs and hence only one global ranking exists.

Hope that made sense. GA=graded assessment by the way, each study score is made up of 3 GAs

Thanks :) That does make sense. Wish I was aware of this before completing my last SAC for Unit 3 a few days ago - worth 50% of it!!!
