Monash College ---> Bachelor of Commerce

Hello,

I'm currently in Year 12, doing alright but trying to keep my options open. I want to try and get into commerce at Monash Clayton (~90 ENTER). If I don't get this I've heard you can pathway in through Monash College.

So I did a bit of reading and this is what I've found...

You can do a business course there that costs around $16,000 a year and if you get I think it was over 80% average score the first year you can go straight into second year Bachelor of Commerce. So it's like a back entrace (as long as you can get 80%+).

Ultimately there is no real disadvantage other than the fact that you lose around $8000 (first year commerce ~$8000 here ~$16,000).

So is this a valid option and is what I have said accurate? Anyone had any experience with this pathway or anyone have any advice?
Also, how difficult is to to yield the results that they expect? Worst thing would be to pay $16K then not get about the score. And one last thing, is first year bachelor of commerce and this course exactly the same? Is there any academic disadvantage towards taking this path?

This is the course I am discussing - http://www.monash.edu/monashcollege/courses/business/structurebusiness/#commerce1

Thanks in advance!

alternatively you could do business get over 70% and transfer into commerce without losing a year.

The method I mentioned you don't lose a year, first year in that Diploma and Bachelor of Commerce are identical. But you do have to pay more.

This business idea is better though, since you save like $8000 and worst comes to worst you can still continue and get a better degree.

Is there more info on this pathway anywhere?

Thanks.

So I need a 70% average in any of Monash's courses (including the ones mentioned in the above post) to be eligible for a transfer into Commere @ Clayton - but it is not guaranteed.

I say if you get like a 72-3% av, you'll get in.

But isn't it competitive to get in?

Yeah but its end of the year, so they will be more places so it kinda like fills the demand. One of my friend's friend who got into UoM BCom with a 74% (usualy the requirement is 75%)

So any word on how hard it is to get 80%+ first year.

Is it something that's really rare to get, or is it something that's can be obtained fairly easily with a lot of hard work.

Is that going through the Diploma I mentioned above?

And just one more thing... I've read a bit more and I'm not sure how this works. Do you need to complete both years to be eligible for the transfer.. or only one? Both years will cost over $30,000 and you've lost a year which ultimately makes it not that appealing..
