Results came out on Monday and I surprisingly managed to get an 81% average (which will get scaled down to 75% I'm assuming). On Friday I can log into VTAC to see whether I get an offer or not. If I do manage to get into UoM, I'll get an extra one week of holidays (RMIT starts on the 21st, UoM starts on the 28th). If I get rejected, I'll have less than 3 days to prepare for my classes at RMIT. I don't like this short notice :(

I'll update this on Friday with whatever the outcome is...
2012 ATAR - 86.75
2013 ATAR - 88.50
2014: BSci (Statistics) at RMIT
2015 - 2017: BCom at UoM

Good luck! It's heartening to see someone so determined to reach a goal.

I do have one question: is it possible for me to get into the Actuarial Studies major? I really want to do Actuarial Studies. I was originally planning to do Accelerated Maths 1 at the start of the year, but I went to RMIT instead and they forced me to do calculus 1 (they wouldn't even let me do calculus 2). So now I'm behind in maths :(

Could I wait until next year and then do Accelerated Maths 1 and 2?

I think it is possible, but then you have to think about what subjects you have to in semester 2 this year. I'm currently in the Actuarial Studies course plan, and it is VERY strict, basically you don't get to choose your subjects, they are already chosen for you.

Probably the best thing to do now is complete all the administrative stuff, and then visit the Commerce Student Centre, where they can give you some advice on subject selection so you don't start off on the wrong foot.

Edit: found this bad boy somehow, skip to page 4 for your circumstances http://fbe.unimelb.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0012/789483/StudentsGuide2013_SM2.pdf

Just wanna say congratulations - i have been on the forums for ages and have seen you working from trying to get a 50 in specialist, to taking a gap year to boost your english score, to not quite getting the atar for melbourne and going to RMIT instead, and then finally getting into your dream course!!
you are good motivation for everyone on here that as long as you keep working towards a goal and do not give up you will get there !!!

They need your exam results in order to see whether you're "fit" to study here (and I'm sure you are! Keep going buddy). I am surprised though, why haven't you completed your exams yet

Unfortunately having completed VCE twice could be disadvantageous when you undergo selection even if you do fulfill the 75% average criteria.. The semester is over? Or am I just being ignorant?

Woah that's pretty nasty of them :(

I couldn't have done this without the help of everyone from AtarNotes!

When I received my scores in 2012, I was quite shattered, because my literature score (below 25) meant that I was ineligible for pretty much all courses at UoM, Monash, RMIT and La Trobe. I got no first round offers and no second round offers.

Someone from AtarNotes suggested that I could repeat English at either TAFE, CAE or Distance Ed. I knew there was a TAFE near my home, and I only had to attend class one day per week, so I went with that option. I got a full-time job doing labour work at a scrap metal yard and I would take Monday afternoons off work to go to TAFE. I ended up scoring a 28 in English, which was just what I needed to pass the prerequisites and open up a lot of options for me. My ATAR also got boosted up above 88, which was the minimum requirement for Access Melbourne entry into BCom.

However, I didn't get Access Melbourne because the only category I applied for was underrepresented school, and that was insufficient for me to be granted entry. My ATAR was 3.5 points too low to get guaranteed entry into BSci at UoM without Access Melbourne.

My options were Science at Monash or Science at RMIT. I went with RMIT because of the location. I had just found a job and accommodation in the city a few weeks before offers were released, and I knew that going to Monash Clayton would mean giving it all up, so I chose RMIT city. I knew the scores I had to aim for for either BSci or BCom at UoM. I was mainly aiming for Science though, because I thought Commerce was out of reach for me.

During all of this, my dad lost his job and I applied for Centrelink. When midyear offers came around, I was able to give my CRN to VTAC as evidence that I was financially disadvantaged, so that boosted up my scores a bit. My university scores were higher than I thought they would be, but still not on par with the indicative scores that UoM recommends to midyear applicants. Nevertheless, with the help of SEAS, I received the BCom offer I was aiming for. And right now, I couldn't be happier :D

Thank you everyone who supported me through my journey to get to my dream university. You are all my heroes :)
