Does anyone know if its possible to resits sacs that you didnt fail but didnt do too well in, like lets say 70 or 80 percent? Like if you are unsatisfied with your sac results does vcaa allow you to resit it even though you didnt fail. Cheers.

from what im aware of, no. Even in Years 7-10 if you got a pass, my school didnt allow you to resit. I think you only resit if you failed to meet the outcome - in VCE

Does this vary with schools or is it a definitive vcaa rule?

If you got a SAC mark you didn't like, you'll just have to sit with it. I wouldn't let that bother you, though, because the exam is what really matters in VCE.

i think its a definite rule. Because then you wouldnt see people disappointed about get 60s on atar notes. Essentially its a test of how well you know the content, if you do the sac again you would know what will be on it, and it would be hard to change the sac and make it the same difficulty - after all its a rank.

nope, if you get to resit sacs its not fair for everyone else who might have prepared really well and studied hard, so they dont allow it.
the only time people get to resit sacs is if they fail a sac, schools make you do a different test or something else so that you get a satisfactory, but your score stays the same ie; if you fail and get 10% but then resit the sac and get 100% on the resit, your score is still 10%

Even when you fail a SAC, a resit just allows you to qualify for an S, you keep your original mark though. (At my school)

When you rest a SAC, its usually just to lift you to 40% thus you get an S

40 % is such an arbitrary "passing" mark haha.

But also, if you're the kind of student that would opt to resit a SAC due to a slightly below expectations score, you will probably be the kind of student that makes it up the next time around as well ;)

nah i know kids who have failed including myself last year, your original score stays, but they just give you the S anyway. a friend of mine 100%'d his methods resit but he still kept his 12% or whatever it was score on his report, and sent to vcaa

Which is simultaneously fair and annoying. Good incentive not to fail in the first place!

I believe the exact matter varies from school to school. At our school, from years 7-10, anyone who fails a SAC must resit it. They then get the average of the two marks. In Year 11 however, the lower mark goes on their report, but still "pass".

Also from my experience, in Years 9 and 10, and so far through this year, if you got a SAC mark which wasn't satisfactory, in the sense it wasn't near your usual average, the teacher would let you resit it, for the average of the two marks. This rarely affects the overall rankings and scores in the end. All it does is simply make for a better report.

Year 12, I don't teachers would take the risk of changing up SAC results. However, I have heard of cases where people get close to the pass mark, that the teacher simply gives them free marks, solely for their benefit. These of course are done by a case to case bases and are meant to be "confidential"
The GOAL: Attain a RAW study score of 40+ in all my subjects.

Courses I would like to study in order of preference include: Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Bachelor of Biomedicine or Bachelor of Science.

2014: Biology [42]
2015: English Language [??] | Chemistry [??] | Physics [??] | Mathematical Methods (CAS) [??] | Specialist Mathematics [??]

It's pretty common practice when a student is a mark or two away from passing that the assessor just goes over their paper again finding an excuse to give an extra mark or two to bump them up. Pass marks are arbitrary and when a student demonstrates that they have achieved a generally satisfactory result (even if strictly speaking it fell a mark or two short) it makes sense to bump them up a little so they can pass, and save themselves from redoing a unit/SAC because of one or two silly mistakes.

I don't think it's a big deal as a) one or two marks on a SAC means nothing to overall study scores in the end and 2) if the same generosity is applied to all who are close to passing than it won't effect ranking.
