VTAC replied to me and said that the statement of support in your VTAC User Account is merely a template that they provide to applicants. If your doctor has already written a letter of support, this will be sufficient as supporting documentation for SEAS.

Good for you!  :D

Hey Guys im just asking on behalf of one of my friends who wanted someone else to share this. Her situation is as follows
  • Dad is an alcoholic and is quite aggressive
    • Parents are on centrelink
    • Come from a non english speaking background (but born in Australia)
    • Mum has disabilities and due to this; "she hasn't been able to fund for tuition due to medication costs etc"

She was wondering under what categories/circumstances can she apply under SEAS and how many aggregate points on average this will help her.

Thanks  :P

CATEGORY 2: Difficult circumstances
CATEGORY 3: Disadvantaged financial background

I don't think category 1 applies since she was born in Australia.

Not sure about the aggregate points. Ask VTAC.

A quick question guys...

So I'm currently trying to write up my impact statement for the 'Difficult Circumstances' category and so far, I have about 3 reasons..

I also have one more that I'm unsure whether I should talk about or leave it out entirely... It might be silly, but my 12 year old pet dog passed away earlier this year in March. She was like another family member to me, and her passing really affected me emotionally... I was very very sad for more than a week.

Do you guys think I should add it or leave it... ? I'm not sure if it's significant enough though. Well to me, it was.

If it truly affected your education and limited you, then yes.
However if your other reasons are significant, they should suffice.

we only have to write the statement of impact if we are going for category 3: difficult circumstances right?

Do we have to send the same Centrelink forms and whatnot twice: once for scholarships and once for SEAS, if we're applying for both? The address we send this stuff to is the 40 Park St one, right? (I got this from the back of the ABC of Applying booklet.) It would be so awkward if someone sent it to the wrong place.

Yes you send them twice, separately. Since they both have cover sheets that is.

The address is on the coversheet they provide, you might want to check if its the same.

With the difficult circumstances, is a written letter from a doctor enough?

(Wrong thread but didn't want to start a new one for this)

Do the rural school schemes some universities have only consider the school you graduate year 12 from? For example, Flinders university has a list of rural schools that they accept which gives you 8 extra ATAR points, and every school from prep to year 11 I've been to are on there, but not the school I'll be doing year 12 at. Does that mean I miss out on it because I'm moving for year 12?

Yup a GP's statement is sufficient

Yo, mega stupid question, guys.

My oncologist wrote me a statement of support regarding my cancer (which is now gone, fuck yeah  8)) and at my last appointment he said that I can somehow check what he's entered online. How the hell do I do that?

I would double check the institution's website or talk to VTAC. Some institutions actually have a list. (I know for certain that UoM loves to post their under-represented school list on theirs and I assume others would try to be somewhat similar in process.) Others are by contacting the institution. Try and figure out what they do and what means you can contact them by (usually e-mail isn't a problem for them).

main point: Maybe asking VTAC or the institution will give you a better answer. I'm sorry I/we couldn't have been more helpful.

Just a friendly PSA in case anyone is having troubles; one of my students informed me  that apparently, although VTAC's system has received and has proof of already submitted SEAS applications, their notifications confirming this aren't operating.

VTAC has processed and uploaded all your SEAS and Scholarship documents on >date<. Unfortunately there are no online alerts regarding uploaded paperwork at the moment, but we are happy to confirm whether we have received/uploaded the documents through email or by phone.

Not sure if this is happening to others, but I just thought I'd let you know you can call or email them if you have any worries.
Wouldn't want anyone freaking out unnecessarily :)
