I started my year 12 classes yesterday Thursday; everything's going pretty sweet, I'm super happy with all my teachers and classes. My spesh class merged in with the other one so now there's 40 people in our room making noise which really bothers me (I'm a prude, yolo) but by the looks of it, we'll have downsized to 25-30 by 2016 so it'll probably be a bit more manageable.

On another note, did you guys know we're meant to be able to read green whiteboard marker? I recently got glasses and apparently green text isn't meant to be torture ::)

HOLY CRAP YOU ARE SO CUTE. I feel like the only person who hasn't started yet.. Starting on Monday.. Excited but nervous. I'm really happy with all my teachers, but I'm nervous about the expectations.
Haha don't stress about the noise in your spesh class, it bothers me too. I actually went through a phase this year where I could not stand any noise at all, like if I could hear someone's footsteps too loudly or someone spoke louder than usual, I would be shit scared and cried in my room for 10 minutes.. Glad I got out of that :P You have a huge class though.. We've got 20 kids and my teacher is trying to kick people out cos there's too much  ::)

HAHAHAHAH omfg  ;D ;D glasses was a great idea, I love green text, its the easiest for me to see! Provided my teacher writes in a green marker that isn't running out of course.... but yeah, good investment ;)

Part of me wants to get my SS right now so it's out the way...
The other part of me hopes it gets lost and I never find out... :/

I am dreading it so bad!! I wanted a raw 40 but everyone says I can't get more than a 38 for methods.. Regretting not working so much, I don't even want my study score anymore, but I'm still so curious.. #torn

As for classics, who are you studying? Pure-greek, romans or greco-roman? I can probably hook you up with some of my notes and point you in the direction of some good books or something if you're interested.

Personally, I haven't found anything particularly difficult (if anything, too easy), but my school's not well known for the bright students so I suppose I should have expected it ::)

On another note, did you guys know we're meant to be able to read green whiteboard marker? I recently got glasses and apparently green text isn't meant to be torture ::)
That's basically what has happened with my French class but I'm still waiting to see if that's a good or a bad thing but we do have two noisy groups now so it's more leaning to the bad  :P
For classics, I'm pretty sure it's Roman for next year since they covered Greek this year. Next year we're studying: Virgil (The Aeneid), Tacitus (Annals of Rome) and Livy (Rise of Rome) and we also use Homer's The Iliad I think since we have to retain it so maybe some slight crossing over into Greco-Roman territory, what about you and your texts? And if you could provide notes/books/good sources I would love you forever and ever hahahaha  ;D ;D
Omg green and orange are the worst whiteboard colours ever, even more so when you have the glare from lights/the sun hitting the board  >:(

Haha, right? My school thought it'd be great to have huge windows and those interactive projector whiteboards in every room but didn't think curtains were necessary. 10/10

Not sure on our unit 4 texts because we're getting a new classics teacher, but we're probably sticking with pure greek. Our texts are the staple Iliad/Odyssey, which is sweet because we used them for unit 1/2 so I can cut down a bit on the holiday reading. My notes are handwritten so I can't actually share them until I get to a scanner or type them out, but Edith Hamilton's Mythology (General overview, Greco-Roman) and any of the Livy translations are good for Rome. Not sure on the time period you're looking at for Rome, but if it's fifth centuryish then the aptly named 'A History of Rome Through the Fifth Century' set is good. I know you can get Hamilton's online but I'm not sure about the others, unfortunately. :( Theoi.com is also really good, but mostly Greece-based.

At my school it's either no curtains or blinds that cover most of the window but leave a sliver of light that always shines on the whiteboard lol
And thanks so much for the recommendations, will have to find a copy of Hamilton and possibly that history of Rome coz I think we do look at the 5th century  ;D don't stress about the notes too much, the recommendations are plenty haha and plus I also managed to score some Greek/Roman books from the school library since they are clearing it out  :)

no u <3

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with the noise thing, it just makes me incredibly uncomfortable. Which is maybe a bit hypocritical because I also get way into things in lit and have excited squealy dialogues with my teacher regarding some obscure realisation about a text ::)

definitely didn't miss this before

I got: 'Studies in Ancient Rome', 'Greek Gods, Human Lives', 'Insight: Literature for Senior Students', Oxford's 'Politics Study Dictionary' which looks like it'll be useful for some extra definitions for Legal and Collins' 'Dictionary of Sociology' just coz lol I would have got more but a) had no more room in my small backpack that i used for pre-VCE and b) there was a lot of stuff that I wasn't interested in/not relevant to me like Fashion, Food, Psychology, random English texts and Tarot stuff lmao

Hi fellow Class of 2016   8)

I haven't been around this group for a while and have decided to join in again.

Mind if I hop along for the ride of Year 12? ;)

My spesh class merged in with the other one so now there's 40 people in our room making noise which really bothers me (I'm a prude, yolo) but by the looks of it, we'll have downsized to 25-30 by 2016 so it'll probably be a bit more manageable.

How is that even legal? I thought the legal limit was 25 students per teacher? Do you have two teachers to the one class?

On another note, did you guys know we're meant to be able to read green whiteboard marker? I recently got glasses and apparently green text isn't meant to be torture ::)

Lmao, I only wear glasses for reading and have never had a problem with reading green text at a distance. However, the problem seems to be real for many other students as my school has 'banned' teachers from using green whiteboard marker (and red pen for correcting work because apparently its too 'harsh' on students...)

I'm doing The great Gatsby  :) :) I've never read it but a couple of friends say its good :)

I read that in Year 11Literature and loved it  ;D. It's a great read that allows you to explore some complex ideas. I hated Nick though; he would have to be the least likeable narrator ever........

Haha, we have two teachers. I'll be a little sad if we split again instead of downsize though because their banter is top notch. But then again we barely fit in the classroom  ::)

That's pretty ridiculous. I can kind of understand the whiteboard marker thing but the red pen's a bit much  :o

Confirming that no one likes Nick. tbh the only character I actually liked was Owl Eyes

+1 Owl Eyes was seriously the only likeable character for me haha probably has to do with his limited role in the novel  :)
