How do you recommend making them? So far, I'm planning on taking notes in one exercise book, and then summarising in another upon completion of a chapter with worked examples. Or would it be better to do it all on loose leaf and get it bound before the exam?

I don't claim my method is the best way, but I take all my notes (theory from the textbook, or what the teacher writes on the board) with examples in the cheapest notebook I can get that won't fall apart by the end of the year. I don't worry too much about the structure or anything like that because I also type my notes, which I'll print out at the end of the year to use for practice/actual exams. If there's anything I need to refer to regularly I'll add it to a list somewhere in my first couple of pages.

I also keep a smaller notebook that I write the harder questions that I make mistakes doing. Not entirely necessary, but I think it's nice to refer to come revision time.

As for the best method, it's probably whatever's easiest for you. #GenericAnswer There's pros and cons for everything, like using a notebook stops you from reordering or easily adding content. Printing means you have to spend a few hours trimming and pasting. Looseleaf sounds like a good way to go, though. Only problem is bringing the unbound pages into SACs, I'd assume?

Yeah, loose leaf is probably not the greatest idea. I think I'll try typing my notes when I do my summary, that way they'll be easier to read during exams.

for further, I don't recommend making a bound reference, the text book has everything you know with examples (depends which one tho tbh i dont know about all but mine was more than sufficient)
With methods, I'd buy a company bound reference at start of year and get really comfortable with it, tbh methods isnt a content subject so you need to spend your time doing questions not doing notes
just my 2 cents

I like to write my own notes. They're a tangible compilation of I've learned in the year; I think it's cool to be able to flip through, page by page, to show the sheer volume of information that's been shoved down my throat. It doesn't really amount to that much 'wasted' time imo, it takes me ten minutes or so for every hour of class to concisely summarise the content in a reasonably attractive way. I tend to write notes on my phone while I'm on the bus which is mostly dead time for me anyway.

To each their own, though. I can see the benefits of buying notes, but it saves me some cash and otherwise boring bus trips, so I'll stick with making my own. ;)

I buy the commercial notes, but then I make my own notes using them and the textbook. That way, come test/SAC/exam time, I know exactly what is in my notes and where to find everything.

OMG I'm gone for like one day and there's 30 new replies D:
SORRY FOR THE SUPER LONG MESSAGE GUYS!

Yeah the UMAT thing looks pretty good but shit that's expensive.. I don't think my parents would want to pay that much and I sure as hell can NOT afford it D: sucks, seemed like a good package.

Had my first day of headstart today!! Only had three classes and I feel like I'm drowning. English Language is so tough my god XD we had a crap teacher and learnt nothing for sem1, then got a good teacher who knew nothing about the course for sem2.. none of our teachers want to teach year 12 so we don't even have a teacher yet, struggling like crazy to feel confident!
Spesh is killing me.. In one hour, my teacher covered an intro, guidelines on a bound reference, topic overview and changes to the study design, circles, ellipses, asymptotes, rectangular hyperbola and non-rectangular hyperbola... IT IS TOO INTENSE I'M SCARED GUYS. Further be my only saving grace but ugh, I haven't looked at this stuff in three years its hard :(

As for the discussion on bound references I thought I'd add my 2c.. I completed methods this year but I didn't prioritise a bound reference. For methods and spesh, I take my teachers notes in one book, then copy them out into a new book at home. I'm not a strong student so this helps enhance and solidify my understanding, and I also redo not copy the examples, because I often don't understand them first time round in class.
For methods, I copied out all my notes, then added in extra examples and cut out exam questions I didn't know and pasted them in. For spesh as well I will do this. For further, its my easy subject and I can't be bothered, so I'm just going to take my teacher's notes in class because you get notes with like everything anyway and I won't have time to copy them again. They should be comprehensive enough.
Another thing I do, is when doing practice exams I make a log book of errors, and I write out a checklist of things I should ensure in my answers (give units, correct rounding etc) and a list of most common/avoidable errors at the start or end (an easily accessible location) of my book, which I think is really important/helpful if you don't really need that much content in your notes.

I think loose leaf is a really good idea though if you don't want to copy out notes/don't have time. Exercise books are tough because for the exam a lot of people like altering their notes/the order/adding content/examples. I think for sacs you can just staple your notes and they are easy to take out for compilation and bounding in any way you wish for the end of year exam. Actually someone clarify:- are stapled notes allowed as reference in SACs?

I'm getting kind of a hunger games vibe  ::)

Both of them will get easier; your spesh teacher will probably dial it back a bit (keyword: bit, if it's anything like my class you'll start with relatively easy stuff but you'll have to do it really quickly). For further, it might take a bit of work, but you'll pick it up. If not, I'm happy to offer assistance. <3

This. I used one page of my reference during the further exam; it just had a bunch of formulas and diagrams on it with a few mistakes I made a lot scribbled on the margin.

Actually someone clarify:- are stapled notes allowed as reference in SACs?

I think you might also have to tape the spine or something? A friend of mine did it because his reference was only like 6 pages ::)
