Yes. It acts a sort of 'study day' where we can either come into school and use the facilities, resources, etc or get help from our teachers, or we can stay at home and study. Alternatively, anyone who is doing VCE with a VET subject would come in on this day as well and they try to schedule excursions on Wednesday's too so we don't miss any class time during the week.

Doesnt this mean your teachers have to go through more over 4 days? Or cover stuff in less detail?

Omg Coffee that's so awesome! It's a great concept in that it recognises the need for students to have a break and it really encourages  study and decreases stress. What school are you at if you don't mind me asking??

Why does everyone have guest speakers and stuff? I start actual classes this Thursday (assemblies in the first two hours though). But I guess it kind of evens out as we have a "study camp" in the city from 1-3 Feb, where we also have guest speakers, study workshops and university tours. So I guess we start uninterrupted classes next Thursday.

Same thing on Tuesdays here, mostly. It's a half day, but if you're lucky (or tight with the timetable guy ::)) you can organise to have a free period on the day and only have 2 hours of official class. Some teachers split it so that's it's a hour one week and two hours the next, which is even cooler.  :D

We had ours during headstart, but we'll probably get another round in the first week or so. Hope not though, the gym floor's not all that comfortable ::)

In Year 11 semester 1 I went to a school that held classes 5 days a week and as far as I'm aware it makes no difference at all. Things are definitely not in any less detail nor is there more to cover. It's still the same amount of classes. We have two classes per week for each subject that run for 1 hour and 50 minutes. You probably also have to keep in mind though that my school functions similar to a university so a lot of 'independent learning' is expected.

PM me :P

And you're not the only one who doesn't have guest speakers! My old school has an assembly in the morning and then it's straight to class.

How is everyone going with free periods this year?

I only got on average 4/6 of a day with classes and if i pass an "interview" I can leave early when i have free periods at the end of the day  :)

I literally do not have any free periods all year. We have five periods a day, each one goes for 58 mins hahaha although my teachers are away a lot, so i guess i have varying 'free periods' hahha oh well

Sorry to intrude, but I just wanted to say a massive GOOD LUCKKK to all of you :) :)

You're all starting the last year (more like three terms) of your school life in the next few days so enjoy it and make the most of it! It really does go by in a blink of an eye.

I met quite a few of you during the all-nighter prior to the release of the 2015 ATAR results and you're an awesome, incredibly hardworking and dedicated bunch. I really hope you guys achieve everything you want to do this year  ;D
I think I might be more excited for you guys starting year 12 than you are yourselves.... hahaha

Anyway, just wanted to say if any of you ever have questions or want to vent, PM me (I really enjoy talking...to basically anyone...)
I would love to tutor you all for free in some way or another but unfortunately I don't have the time and I can't drive and I'm an absolute noob with public transport oops lol

Will follow suit and also say good luck to you all as well!

Year 12 is a roller-coaster ride and you'll have moments where you'll be happy and moments where you'll be sad but just remember to savour every moment of it before you suddenly walk out of your last VCAA exam... that's when you know high school is finally over :') Have no ragrets, stay positive (if you think you're going to be screwed then you've already lost the race) and most importantly, study smart rather than study long!

One tip: Always be on top of everything so plan ahead so you avoid getting too stressed out. A good example is when VTAC applications open in August and you have to submit SEAS/Scholarship applications before September/October so get on top of those when you have free time since Term 3 is notorious for being inundated with SACs and all.

I'll fourth this.  Take my best wishes for the year.

VCE is just like life - it's gonna get damn tough at times.  But it's your choice whether you enjoy it or not.  Commit to making this your most enjoyable and most growthful* year so far.  If you get 99.95 but haven't enjoyed it, the year was pointless; you get 29.95 and enjoyed it and grew, then you've beaten the system hollow.

When it gets tough, which it will, remember to reach out to this community, and I'm always here if you need.  I don't bite - often.

VCAA, look out.  AN's Class of 2016 is coming at you ;D

* as a natmod I'm now entitled to make up all the words I like, don't argue

I would love to tutor you all for free in some way or another

Easy.  Stick round AN and keep answering questions.  No public transport required.

There's nothing I love more than when someone writes in small font, and I copy paste it into my URL bar to see what they wrote. It's like a kinder surprise :P
