Wow, good job! I got five superiors and a above average for my test back when I did it but I didn't even get an interview :( ( damm co curricular )
Now it's JMSS or MHS ( if you do get in)
It really depends on what you want to be in life and what type of schooling you prefer. MHS is probably more rounded then JMSS but you seem like the kids who has a strong passion for science so JMSS could be a good route for you to go down. I really can't sell the idea of going to MHS to you since I don't go there but I can tell you the advantageous of JMSS

- Kids there absolutely adore science
- Science facilities
- Modern approach on education
- I can't be sure but it is most likely closer to you
- connections with Monash
- Scholastically, we may not be as good as MHS but we can get you where you want ! People are very serious when it comes to VCE at JMSS. The teachers are really clear and passionate, a lot of them are scientist themselves.
That is all of the top of my head so yeah. Either way way, choose what is best for your development!

How did you NOT get an interview? The only co-curricular activity I did was hockey.

The cohorts are MHS are like a brotherhood. It's not as competitive as it seems once you've actually settled down - if anything the cohort is incredibly supportive and motivating.

(Pick MHS you seriously will NOT regret it)

Reason why you shouldn't come MHS(jkjkjk)
Toilets are crap, full of tissues on ceilings.
The corridors are cramped and the year 12s are bossy and wont let you through.
If you look out from the history room in the T building you see this guy imprinted on the art building, weird!
They make you sit on primary school chairs.....
If you don't play League of Legends, CSGO or Fiffa. The nerds will stalk you until you do.
Ever get a bottom lock, enjoying waiting 5 minutes for your turn.

The good things about MHS:
class parties and JAMESSSSSSSSSS Guthrie u legend

JMMS +1 MHS -1

Yep haha, decisions decisions :(. Although I love science, I'm not really interested in going into research or the medical field, I would prefer a commerce/maths based course and job. What I love about JMSS is how fresh and friendly it seems, compared to the slightly daunting and competitive  appearance of Melbourne High. Also it seems easier to fit in socially with JMSS rather than MHS, especially with starting school at the same time, alongside the less competitive environment.

Still not sure though... I'll see how the interview goes :)

Regardless of your choice, allow me to stress something. This is not aimed directly at you but to people in general. JMSS IS NOT ENTIRELY SCIENCE BASED! Jmss has so many other options other then science especially for the mathematicians. A lot of kids come to JMSS just to see what science is like and end up going down another road of work. Jmss does not force you into science, all it does is give you my science opportunities then other schools. I really get frustrated when people think all JMSS does is prepare people for science jobs ( Not saying you are but a lot of people do).

To be honest, I think MHS would suit you really well. They have a very strong Commerce dep and many Commerce links with the Old Boys Association which you can't really get in any other non-elite private school (for boys). You sound like someone who wants to be well-rounded, and MHS really encourages that, there's a club for everything (academics, charity, anime, sports, chess, break-dancing, environment, debating, cadets, sexual orientation, board games, and the list goes on) and facilities on the school grounds (hockey field, basketballs courts, oval, cricket nets, swimming pool, whatever) to cater for all that extra enrichment.  I used to walk past JMSS every day and see about 100 people crammed onto their sole basketball court during lunchtime or recess, I really feel sorry for them, every time they went to this small patch of grass next to the road they had a teacher with them, seems awfully restrictive and lacking of facilities if you ask me :/

Also on a Commerce note, I know that from my year MANY students were offered cadet-ships and things into big firms like PwC, E&Y and KPMG (ie. Big Four firms). Just food for thought if you want to head down those roads :)

I agree, the school does seem daunting. It's got a very proud history of academic excellence that can seem a bit frightening, it's also got that elite private school grandeur-ness about it's main building (castle!!!) which can be a bit intimidating. However, given the location centrally in the city, the bromance of the cohort (not that there aren't events with Mac.Rob!), the abundance of on-ground facilities, the fact that there is a library that can accommodate the school's population, and the history of excellence; choosing MHS would be a no-brainer for me :)

The "guy imprinted on the art building" is MHS alumni Lindsay Fox. He also used to park his helicopter on the oval. MHS is cool like that, we actually own an oval and we have some sweet alumni who have really made it places in the world.

Not sure about nerds stalking people, if you go outside to play a bit of cricket or soccer or whatever you avoid that? Never happened in my time at MHS. We had people play LoL and SC in the library, but they kept to themselves and that was fine by me.

Sucks to be you with a bottom locker! Evaded getting one for 4 years :P

" If you go outside to play a bit of cricket or soccer" The year 12s and 11s take up the whole field. ITS IMPOSSIBBLE.
Wait Lindsay Fox, Isn't he rich. I heard he studied at MHS and left for some reason..

Nah in class, all they talk about is Lol Lol Lol. And i would have no clue what it is.....

lol, ask them to play against them? Back when I was at MHS we all loved a bit of inter-year soccer or inter-year cricket. We had one net for the Year 11/12s and one for the Year 9/10s, worked out pretty well. Also, you can play soccer on the oval or in the gym if you make a booking(?) >.> Lots of people also played a bit of soccer on the basketball courts too, they were usually free for that with the ones near the cricket nets having bball games. Plenty of room for everyone, especially if you ask for a match.

Yeah Google brah. He got expelled.

So maybe ignore them or plug some music in? Hardly an issue.

Hey Pi, I have two quick questions :)

Does the school allow you to do a 1&2 in Year 10 and/or a 3&4 in Year 11?

What are your opinions on MHS vs a mid-tier private school? Are there any advantages to Melbourne High other than an academic focus with that?

Things have probably changed since I was there, but 3/4s for yr11 were bio, accounting, psych, bm, eco, hhd, and a few others. I think they now allow methods, not too sure though. Either way, I don't think it's advantageous to knock off methods in yr11 anyway, if you're doing spesh in the same year it's pretty much like doing 4 subjects in year 12 instead of 5.

What's a mid-tier private school? It certainly doesn't have the resources of mgs, scotch, xavs, skevs, etc etc but for a govt school it's resources are second to none. Having never been to a private school, I'm not sure who it stacks up to the "mid-tier" ones, but I have heard that our music program (+/- combined with Mac.Rob sometimes) is up there with some of the best schools, which is surprising given we don't dish out money for music scholarships.

We do have an yr9 evening night which basically tells us what to expect in year 10. Melbourne high's community is great, however ur stuck with a castle and...(not mentioning the toilets) cough cough. :P
Hannibal, you don't need to stress about which school you want to go. From your heart, ask this question " Is Melbourne High where i want to spend rest of my secondary life at" OR at another school. Is it JMMS or UNI High?
You're going to  achieve high standards, If your already devoting so much time on your studies and other what not so forth.
( JMMS REKts MHS)

Some students in my cohort are thinking of doing methods in yr10, however the work load is obv going to be be A LOT. But my brother did methods in yr10 and yr11 before doing spesh in yr12.
I reckon our music program is first class, no other schools can beat us.
