25 in Further

Hi everyone,

Is it hard to reach a 25 raw study score in Further Mathematics if you are averaging 36-40%? The school average is mid 50's. Not a lack of effort though, Maths hates me sooo much!!!!

If it helps, my school wasn't terribly great as an average for Further either.

I received a 27 by scoring two C+'s in the Exams (not to mention I failed the geotrig SAC as well). In the end only your rank matters as your scores are moderated - the exams are crucial.

What's done in the past, you cannot change. But what you can do is focus on the exam and do well in that... With that in mind I believe you can easily get a 25+ as long as you get a decent mark in both exams.

On average, it would be following the textbook questions as guided by the teacher. Then, following up with VCAA exams and going to Maths help 3 times a week.

Then I have my maths tutor who comes every Friday.

I don't think I'll reach 25+ to be honest, but I'll try my best.

Don't know why I am going so bad this year.

What topics are you doing other than the Core? I love further, but I hate every topic i'm not doing, so I got lucky.

You're certainly studying a lot, so maybe your problem is that you're just not studying right.

It's going to be a horrible thing to hear so late in the year, but there's still time to turn it around - instead of just doing practice questions like you currently are, try approaching maths more like a humanities subject, and see if that does any difference for you. I'm not saying you shouldn't do practice questions, but only doing practice questions isn't going to benefit you if you don't understand the material at all.

Sometimes it is a mental issue of mine, as I do suffer from depression issues which can affect my self-esteem and studying patterns when approaching SACs.

So, I'll just keep it positive as I am going ok in my other subjects, I can only try my best.

This must be the issue, learning how to study effectively is a key skill you should try and learn these holidays. I know it's hard but if you want to get into BBus @ Monash or BA @ unimelb then you need to be able to put in the hard and effective yards now.

Yeah I 100% agree, there are a lot of flaws I have within myself and anything can happen on a given day, e.g. one bad SAC or exam.

I've just about lost most confidence to get into those courses above. I am trying my heart out, but studying effectively has been in my thinking patterns as of late.

I might acquired 85+ but not get into those business courses cause Further is not 25+, hence why I have been looking at Arts/Education.

I am going to buy some headphones or 'beats' I think they are called, just to shun out the noise before a certain SAC etc...

Little music or something to quiet me down... I am also going to pretend that a SAC date is two days earlier than it is meant to be, so I am prepared and only need to fine-tune things (easier said than done).
