Well done Stick! It does take a couple of lessons to get your head around how to best run things for your particular class (even for an old hand like myself!) :D

Urgh 9am class tomorrow. I haven't woken up in the am for some weeks now... >_<
m9 like 5/7 of my classes are 9am starts haha (every day this week!). Worst.

Has anyone been doing workshops? Get involved with Scav/BBQs if you can, they're great fun!

Glad to hear you're feeling better about it Stick!  I'm sure you're doing great anyway.  I feel as if my structure is becoming repetitive and boring now, haha.

Thank you very much for the kind words. :) Today went really really well; I managed to almost catch up with my schedule and still managed to run my intended class activities. I think it was just the initial class that must have thrown me off a little because now I feel content with how I ran things.

Wew fantastic news mate!

Had two classes today...one at 9, one at 3.15. I mean, really Ops? :p

You're all doing better than me, nobody in my class likes talking or discussion so when I try and get them to ask questions they just sit there quietly and stare into my soul. So I've ended up just talking for an hour and then handing out a list of resources + practice questions at the end. I'm also ridiculously behind because I explained everything too thoroughly in lesson one and also got through 3 pages :')

I know dem feels. :|

As already stated in recent posts: half the battle is somewhat letting go. You can't cover the entire course properly in just 6 lessons - if it could be done, it would. I also know this is much easier said than done. Additionally, you'll have to be more clever about your activities: simpak's suggestion of getting students to draw on the board is a good one; another is to simply call upon students to provide an answer, rather than waiting for a volunteer (which is often the same individual/s). That can stimulate discussion as a lot of the Biology exam questions are "suggest why" type questions that require students to come up with their own explanation drawing upon the major concepts in the course and you can gain insight to a variety of different approaches and suggestions to the same question. The biggest lesson I've learnt so far is that we simply don't have time to play elaborate group games - they may be fun, help students relax a little and could even be a really effective learning tool, but ultimately they're not efficient enough for what we need to do.

I hope I don't lapse back into bad habits tomorrow. :P

I am asking them questions directly :( They really don't like talking during class :') I have ten mini-mes lumped together in one space (but they're happy to ask after the class, at least).

^ HAHA it totally doesn't work. One of my students comes up to me today and she's like "I don't answer your questions in class even though I know the answers, because you'll give me candy anyways." THATS NOT HOW THE GAME WORKS.

She was also like "we had a spesh sub today and he swears as much as you do ಠ_ಠ"
"Oh really? Who was it?"
"His name's pi"
"...of course it was"

Sadly my VCESS journey has had to come to an end prematurely due to unforeseen circumstances, but it was a fantastic experience being able to meet such a ginormous bunch of amazing people <3 <3
I hope I'll be back to tutor in the future :D #VCESS4lyf

Oh yeah, to follow on from this:

Who is the person from my class who said they knew me from AN? REVEAL YOURSELF.

Said person mentioned that they saw this post (in class today) and refused to tell me their username LOL
