2 3/4s in year 11

My teachers are saying I am permitted to complete 2 in year 11; however, they don't recommend it. My year 10 results are usually 90% and above; do you think that I will struggle with 2 3/4's in year 11?

Hey Scandin,
I would strongly recommend you do two 3/4s in year 11 for the following reasons

  • Two 3/4s can act as a huge safety net in Year 12 knowing that you've already got some 3/4s under your belt, potentially allowing you to not need to do as much in Year 12
  • Since you'll only be doing two 3/4s, you'll have much more time to focus on these two subjects than if you left them to Year 12 where they might become just another subject to grind through
  • If you're doing the 1/2 this year (eg Methods), its much better to do it immediately next year rather than wait a whole year and potentially forget everything

Don't listen to the people who say you'll be overloaded in Year 11, you have great results, and you're going to have to manage your time efficiently in Year 12 anyway -  doing two 3/4s gives you a good advantage in learning how to prioritise.
Even if you don't do too well, you can always redo one or choose another completely different subject in Year 12.

If you feel really confident, I think you would be fine. I don't think you should do it if you're planning on doing 1/2s at the same time like chemistry, methods and specialist that require a lot of knowledge that leads on into 3/4, because you might need to neglect them a little and find it harder the next year.... Definitely do 1 though.
