Hi guys, i've decided that my current school isn't challenging me enough and have decided to go for a scholarship at a near-by private school,
i'm booked in for an interview/meeting with the principal and am wanting to prepare as best i can for the day (BTW i'm yr 8)
so, what should i wear, what should i bring (i.e. certificates and referrals)?
Any other tips?

Thanks, TheAspiringDoc.

If you're reliant on third hand advice asked on an incorrect sub-forum, there are probably others more deserving of the scholarship.

It's good to see you want to move to a better school, although keep in mind that private is not the same as "better", although I'm sure you've well researched your school of choice :D If I was going to an interview I'd bring some certificates of note to show that you are al all-round high achiever. That may include ICAS or AMC certificates (I'd be hesitant on putting anything academic that is less than a "Distinction", but as you're an aspiring doctor I'm sure that isn't a problem ;)), sporting certificates, AMEB music certificates, community/volunteering certificates, leadership certificates, etc.

As for clothing, I think some nice formal pants, a shirt, and some smart black shoes? Maybe a jumper (not a hoodie!) over the top given Melbourne's unpredictable weather too :P If the school uniform has a tie it might be good tact to wear a tie. Do up your top button for that "teacher's pet" look they all love! ;)

I think it's also important to think about the school and not about yourself. You want to go there because you want better education, but why would the school want you? What can you do for them? (re: Inauguration of John F. Kennedy speech)

Good luck! :)

I'm sure it was an accident, he seems new to the site and this part of the forum is slightly ambiguous in its name, maybe "Questions to Staff" may be more appropriate :) Let's not be so judgmental so early on! :)

:) Looking for Selective School, VCE, UMAT and Monash MBBS or LLB prac exams! Early prep is never bad prep! Be friendly :)

As someone mentioned earlier, private schools arent THAT great. I go to a private school (in yr 8 right now) and the curriculum is quite behind compared to other schools. I went for my scholarship interview in 2011. There's not really much you can do, I hardly spoke, and they still gave me a scholarship. Bring some certificates or something and bring your NAPLAN results. Also, private schools are often in competition with each other, so telling them that you are applying to a rival school will give you a bit of a heads up. Also, (im not sure about other schools) but, since private schools are looking for more numbers aka more money, they might ask you if your parents are capable of paying full fees if you dont get in. SAY NO. My parents said that they could and my sister did not get a scholarship even though she is a genius. When I went for my interview, my parents told them that they would not pay full fees and that if i didnt get in I would go to Haileybury (rival school) and within a week I got a phone call saying that i got the schoolarship.  ;D

GOOD LUCK!
:)

While private schools aren't amazing academically (Kids aren't very enthusiastic), the amount of extracurricular activities and extra stuff that you can do is awesome, especially for middle school where you have more time :). I would recommend wearing school uniform if it's during a school day, and smart casual if it's not. Try and be as extroverted as possible, make sure you amaze the interviewer with your interest and ambition :D.
