Im planning to do 2 Unit 3/4 s in year 11 (I probably won't),

I just want to know what the mentoring program entails, is it hard?

Thanks!

I wonder if anyone ( later years students ? ) can provide some information on the following questions:

1) The year 10 booklist for 2015 lists the TI Nspire CX CAS calculator is required for Maths.  Do we have to have that particular one or will similar calculator do?  Will a scientific calculator app on the secondary device suffice?  I inherited a TI-83 from an older sibling who have just finished VCE and the new calculator is $200.  Along with primary and secondary device and new uniform it is starting to add up and my parents don't earn that much ...

2) I also notice that the new one comes with "Student Software".  Is this software necessary or can we do without it?  The software is not actually listed in the book list.  I know that second hand ones won't come with software and if we have to have the software then buying second hand one won't be an option either.

3) It also says that it is expected that we might need to purchase apps on a "Just-in-Time" basis.  I assume this means we have to have credit with our Itunes account or Google Play account to pay for the app.  How often does this buying apps on a "Just-in-Time" basis happen and how much credit do I need for the year?

4) There is no Maths book on the book list.  So how do we study Maths?  What can I do in terms of getting a head start and having a look at what we will be studying next year?  Since there is no Maths book I can exactly have a look at that ...

Any other information that might be helpful about year 10 would be appreciated also.

I'm not a 'later' student, but I think I can help you in section four. At my current school, we ditched the textbooks for worksheets, but we still learn the same thing. I think you could get ahead if you look for year 10 maths textbooks at your public library or at your school.

1) didn't do year ten maths ( I was in the methods class) but you will need the CAS for your exams as a secondary device is not allowed. In regards to the inherited calculator, you will have to talk to the school directly to find out if it is useable for the course but from memory a few people used old calculators in class and eg were perfectly fine. However, I do suggest you buy a CAS now since you will need it for VCE and you want to get as used to it as possible.

2) not too sure about the software thing but once again talk to the school directly  about that. if the software is not on the book list the. I doubt you need to buy it.

3) We never had to buy any apps on a just in time basis in fact the teachers never made us purchase any non free apps. This could change for you guys but I doubt the school will force you to purchase many apps if any at all. In fact, I got through the year with only pages as my non free app.

4) Once again, I was not in year ten maths but everyone did have math textbooks. If they scrapped this then they are most likely giving you worksheets. Year ten maths is the same for all schools so just do a google search for some year ten math resources if you wanna work ahead.
