Non standard entry vs standard???

Hey guys
I did not do well enough in the umat this year to stand a chance for a medicine interview offer.

What are the pros and cons of Starting uni and doing umat in uni and applying as a 1st year uni student??
or
Is it better to take a gap year and retry the umat as a yr12 leaver ??

If someone could help me out please.
