Breadth questions

So my Italian breadth journey this year has been great, but unfortunately coming to a close. I've been told Italian 5 and 6 is just too demanding to manage alongside subjects like Molecular and Cellular Biomedicine and Human Structure and Function, and takes on a very academic and literary focus, which I'm not terribly interested in. I've got semester 1 covered for next year (Genetics, Health and Society) but I've had a pretty good look in the handbook this morning and nothing's really taking my fancy in regards to a level 2 semester 2 breadth subject. Any recommendations? I don't mind a bit of writing but I'm not terribly keen on a subject where the vast majority of assessment is based on high-weighted and lengthy essays. I'm probably looking for something with a bit less of a workload compared to Italian 3 and 4 as well. The only ones that look a bit interesting are LING20003 Second Language Learning and Teaching, MUSI20150 Music and Health and UNIB20018 Going Places - Travelling Smarter (but I'm not really sure - all seem to have quite a high weighting towards essay writing).

It's probably worth also asking if it necessarily "matters" which level of breadth I take? If I choose to do a level 1 or level 3 breadth subject next year, is there any particular consequence to that? Since there might be confusion, I registered in the level 1 versions of Italian 3 and 4, so I've eaten up two out of the three potential level 1 breadths this year.

I was also considering starting French, but I can't do that as a breadth now can I, since you can't study the introductory subjects at level 2?

Have you considered doing two selectives in Semester 2 instead of a selective and breadth? Two selectives in one semester + HSF is quite manageable from my experience.

My friends are doing Music and Health at the moment and it seems they have to create their own playlist of songs for different situations (eg exercising) and how it would make them feel. Seems a bit dry though.

What i did was a summer breadth at the start of this year as well as a winter breadth. This means i didnt have to do a breadth this semester and I am not doing one next semester either. My main motivation was so I would have more time to study for the Sept and March GAMSATs and i must say it is definitely worth it. Even once the Sept GAMSAT was over I have had a lot more time to spend on HSF which has helped a lot. Plus the summer and winter breadths are quite easy if you pick the right ones and you will most likely H1 them. Just a suggestion b/c I am assuming you are aiming for med?

If you took ITAL2000_ then you can still do French as a level 1. I'd recommend Spanish though. With an Italian background, that'll be as a easy as pie.

I'm looking at school experience as breadth, i'm not sure if you'll qualify for the language stream (but you'll surely have other options in maths/sci) and i know the workload isn't nothing but it's an option!

As I said in my first post, unfortunately my Italian codes were level 1. :(

LIVING LONGER!!!!!!!
Best subject ever. It's practically a free 20% for blogs and there's also a % of marks allocated to tutorial participation (I think I got something like 12/15).
See my subject review on it: Re: University of Melbourne - Subject Reviews & Ratings

BUT I've also heard good things about  AUSLAN and Visual Communication (a winter subject), if you want to reduce the load for semester 2 2015.

.
This subject doesn't look too bad: https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2015/POPH30002

It looks quite demanding for a breadth subject, it has both an end of semester exam and an end of semester essay.
IMO it would be easier to choose a subject that has just an exam or just an end of semester essay.

Do people actually take these subjects seriously? (Spend time studying, writing notes, stressing about assessment, etc.)
Or is it kinda like art and religion class in high school where you don't do anything outside of class?

I don't think they take it quite seriously, no. To be honest I would rather spend $700 on a more worthwhile subject.

What i did was a summer breadth at the start of this year as well as a winter breadth. This means i didnt have to do a breadth this semester and I am not doing one next semester either. He's already a Chancellor's Scholar though, so it probably wouldn't be a big deal for him anyway. I do agree with doing a summer and winter subject though unless you're planning to travel or do other stuff during the holidays. Better than being stuck at home with nothing to do!

And I've used up both my breadths on Finance 1 and Microeconomics and I heard Business Finance and Macroeconomics are actually really hard, anyone got a suggestion for a business related level 2 breadth that's not too taxing?

Business Negotiations is a subject which comes to mind. It's an intensive subject during July so you can get it over and done with within the first few weeks of semester 2. There are some reviews of it in the subject review page. Other than that, you can also do Inter Micro, which is supposedly on a similar difficulty of Intro Micro.

What breadths have you done in first/second year Shenz0r?

And what summer subject do you plan on doing/what have you done?

First year I did Intercultural Communications (lvl 1) and Body, Mind and Medicine (lvl 2).

Second year I only did Genetics, Health and Society (lvl 2) and I'm doing two selectives (Pharmacology and Microbes) in second semester.

In summer I'm going to do Finance 1 and then probably Market Negotiations in Winter.

Living longer isn't available anymore it seems. ;( And I think you're right about POPH30002, I think I got caught up in it since it seems like UNIB20007.
